- Cornish, ME, USA

I am being scammed by someone representing a secret shopper international research company. It started with me receiving a message from a professional contact at LinkedIn that I knew. His account was hacked. Unfortunately, I trusted the person and clicked on the link, not knowing about the hack until it was too late. Two weeks later I received an email stating I had been accepted for a secret shopper research position. One week later a bank check arrived and the same day an email requesting me to purchase $2,500 in Walmart gift cards and $40 at the Gap. I would be making purchases and evaluating the stores, service and products. Then they ask to scratch the cards, and photograph them and the receipts and send to them. The check is fake, which I'm told the bank learns a few weeks down the road, the scammers have the card info to use and the victim owes the bank money for the bum check.
