Drone Registration Reports & Reviews (3)

my formal complaint about a business located to complain about a business located at:

PO Box 481

San Dimas, CA 91773-0481.

This company uses the name Drone Registration and the website https://drone-registration.net/. On about the second week of December, 2019, I searched the web for information on registration of a new remote control plane I had purchased. A site turned up at the top of my search that appeared to be the Federal Aviation Agency’s (FAA) site to register remote controlled plane. The site looked official and claimed planes weighing 0.55 grams to 55 pounds must be registered with the FAA. I attempted to follow the directions and as soon as I entered all my information including my credit card data for a total of about $60.00, the website cleared all information.

This activity on the website looked as though I had to start all over. I did start all over however, because I could not remember exactly how I had entered the data the first time the second entry was different in terms of amount about &76.00. I thought there was a problem with the website and located a part of their site that had a message board to post notices to their customer service. This final charge was approximately $150.00. I wrote that I needed someone to call me and I gave my phone number.

The weekend passed and I had not been contacted so I began to be concerned. My jobsite sent out emails warning of scam websites. This alarmed me and I began checking on the website. When I got home I tried to enter the data again and again it cleared all information. I had not seen any charges to my bank account by this time, but called the bank to express my concerns. The bank noted the account and asked me to wait two more days. I did and called again. The bank closed the bank card used for the charge.

I began to investigate the website and found the real FAA site. The website I noted above for which I am entering a complaint has modeled their website to look so much like the FAA’s site it is easy to mistake the site as an official government website.

The FAA has issued the following warning:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) wants to warn drone

owners especially hobbyists—about people offering to “help” register their drones with the agency. The FAA Drone Zone is all you need – and it costs only $5.00.

There are a number of entities that offer to help drone owners and operators file an

application for a registration number. Some attempt to mimic the look of the FAA’s

website with similar graphic design and even the FAA logo, or suggest they are

somehow “approved” by the agency. They aren’t – and you could be wasting your

money. The FAA neither regulates these entities nor will speculate on their legitimacy.

However, we have recently received reports of vendors charging exorbitant fees up to

$150.00 for this service. The actual FAA registration fee is $5.00. For that charge,

hobbyists receive one identification number for all the drones they own. All others

pay the registration fee for each drone they intend to operate.

The Drone

We strongly advise you to avoid registering your unmanned aircraft

anywhere but at the FAA Drone Zone. It’s the only way to make sure

your drone is legally registered and that you’ve gotten your money’s

worth.

On the website called the Better Business Bureau The Business called Drone Registration has 14 complaints against it from last years. See this website for details https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/san-dimas/profile/drone-sales/drone-registration-1216-... />
The website referenced above about which I am making this complaint has written that it does not return money or refund. The reason they state is the product is very specialized. They are charging many times more than the actual cost of the product they offer by preying on innocent patrons. I am 66 years old and was not expecting to have to deal with an online scam. I will be 67 in April and am still working because social security is my only retirement income. I needed a way to recreate so I bought an rc plane. Now I am fighting to recover money that I has been scammed from me.

Regards,

This website pretends to be a federally run website for registering your drone with the FAA. It charge me $27 for a sticker but it said it was a federal registration for my drill. Federal registration for my drone actually only cost five dollars. Do not be fooled by this imitation website
