Imposter FarmWise Labs Inc. Reports & Reviews (1)

I just wanted to let you know that there is an employment scammer who is using the FarmWise name, logo, "letterhead" (on employment forms such as an application and letter of employment) signature of the Company CEO, and Marie Schiltz's name and another person by the name of Steven Harris to "conduct interviews" over the Telegram messaging app. This all started yesterday morning and ended this morning.

I believe this person targeted me through Indeed, first contacting me via text message and instructing me to download the Telegram app. I did not question it at that point because I had filled out an application on Indeed and indicated that I would receive text messages regarding employment. I have also had past valid interviews conducted through text, over Zoom, and through emails and I figured this is probably another way companies are using technology to interview since this pandemic has really screwed up the way we are able to interact with one another. Boy, did this pandemic sure give scammers yet another avenue to get to people...

I was invited to peruse the FarmWise website while I waited for the employment forms to be emailed to me and was really pretty excited about what the company does. Thinking I was hired to work doing data entry at home for this company was pretty cool.

As the interview process went along, I started to feel that this was a possible scam; however, how do I flat out ask someone that kind of question when I need a job so bad, am interviewing for the perfect data entry work-from-home job that allows me to care for our children (including our 22-year old autistic son) and bring in some money without having to pay for the kind of daycare he and the other children require? I did not want to potentially lose out on an opportunity by accusing the hiring manager of being a scammer so I kept my mouth shut.

They emailed me a check, front and back copies, that I was to deposit via mobile deposit so I could buy the necessary office equipment and software and again, I thought, "huh, maybe this is the new pandemic way of doing things". I submitted the deposit BUT I called my bank and let them know what was going on, just in case my gut feeling turned out to be right. They accepted the deposit, sent me the deposit confirmation, and locked my bank accounts to be on the safe side. My stomach sank when the hiring manager started asking if the funds were available yet. If you work for any company, you know funds won't be available until 24 hours after deposit, at a minimum. I told him that things were on hold with the bank and asked what else we could train on, in the meantime. He shut the training session down and said to be on at 8am today.

At 8am today, I let him know that the funds would not be available for at least a week because my bank was making sure it would clear and would retain the lock on my accounts until then so I would not be able to purchase the equipment and software but could focus training on other things. He then wanted me to go ahead and purchase equipment from "the vendor" and they would reimburse me. At that point I called him a scammer, told him shame on me for being sto stupid and shame on him for being a liar and a scammer and taking advantage of someone who truly needs a job and has a valid reason for working from home. As you can imagine, it was crickets after that and I haven't had any more contact. Luckily, I had not given out my social security number or bank account numbers and my bank is keeping an eye out on my account for me.

I have contacted Indeed with this and will re-evaluate how I have my information on their website and keep looking for a valid data entry from home job. I have also contacted FarmWise to let them know and emailed them copies of what the scammer emailed to me.

Beware...this pandemic has really given scammers a whole new way of making quick money off those of us who are truly looking for a job that is very badly needed. Luckily, I'm not the only one and that makes me feel a little better about being stupid enough not to listen to my gut feeling.
