This happened to me as well, I was super confuse as to why I was selected so fast. I quickly did my research to make sure and thankfully I came across this post who shared a similar experience of going through "Wired" App for secured messaging but couldn't get a hold of anyone when I wanted to talk to someone. I looked up their HR LinkedIn attached to the email and that person didn't exist even though company is real but the person behind the scam was not. I want to bring awareness to those experiencing this scam as well. Thankfully, I didn't sent them anything. Please be careful! If it's too good to be true, definitely a scam!

I was contacted by a company for a job position offering a high salary. At first I thought it was too good to be true. But I went along in the process anyway. I interviewed for the position and I thought I did well. However, the interview was done through the secure instant messenger app, named WIRE. Never heard of wire before, nor have I ever been interviewed in this way before. I was notified the next day that I was selected for the position. I was excited and grateful that I got a position of this caliber. I was only given 24 hours to accept and sign the offer letter once received. I should have known then that this was a scam. I also didnt have to go through a proper background check either other than submitting my driver's license, proof of address and 2 satisfactory references. The next thing was since I was going to work remote, I needed to get my equipment sent to my place. I thought that this was all happening a little quicker than I expected. Nonetheless, I was emailed a check by the company. I deposited the check and waited until it cleared so I could purchase the equipment as instructed. The next day, I was told that all of my accounts are on restriction until the check is verified. The bank alerted me that the check was bad and the check looked altered. This is when I started to realize that this was too good to be true and was a scam. All of contact with this employer was through this application. I asked repeatedly why we have yet to speak on the phone. Much to my surprise I was not receiving any answers to that question. I also alerted them that the check they sent was bad. They told me that they didn't issue bad checks. Well the bank told me that the check was bad so that is when I started to believe this was a scam. I was then asked by the employer if I would be able to use a percentage of my own personal funds to purchase the equipment and I would be reimbursed. I expressed to them that I could not do that. Since then I have not heard from the company or any representatives. This is a scam of the highest order. Because of this scam, I turned down a real job offer. I feel ******.

This is almost exactly what happened to me, however the interview process was thru the app "Ring Central". I've been searching for a better jobs for over a year and I was excited to get such a promising offer where I could continue to work remotely. After I was offered the job, I was excited and mentioned it to my room mate who told me that the whole thing sounded fishy. So I replied to the offer email saying, "I'm interested but I'd like to speak with the hiring manager, either on the phone or over ZOOM" and I got no response. Thankfully I didn't lose any $$$.

After initial interview, they offered to send a check for you to cash to purchase office equipment.
