Italian Institute Reports & Reviews (1)

- Parker, CO, USA

I HAVE REPORTED THIS BUSINESS TO THE FBI. I contacted The Italian Institute of Denver (http://www.italianinstitute.com)by email. This is a school that supposedly teaches Italian language to English speakers. I asked if they could help me with the paperwork required for obtaining a Juris Matrimoni for my husband (David Mann). Maria Chiacchio from The Italian Institute responded by email. Her email addresses are ([email protected] and [email protected]). She was very helpful and said that she could indeed help us with the paperwork. She said that she'd done this for multiple people in the past and seemed very knowledgeable. Ms. Chiacchio said that she required a $1000 retainer fee and would then bill us monthly for her hourly charges. I filled out the printed contract that she sent to me by email. My credit card number was included in the returned contract and the $1000 was charged to my credit card. I followed up with Maria (by email) approximately 3 days later and asked if she had received the completed contract. She said by email that she did and that she would contact me with any updates on my husband's file within a week.

I waited for 1 1/2 weeks and since I did not hear from her, I tried to contact Maria. She did not respond to multiple emails over a period of 3-4 weeks. We called The Italian Institute at the phone number listed on their website (303-733-4335). Multiple phone calls to this number were never answered by a person but a recording said to please leave a message at a phone number that was different from that of The Italian Institute (303-888-6866). We googled this telephone number and it was the personal phone number (not a business number) for Maria Chiacchio. Though we left multiple messages by phone and by email, Maria never responded and seemed to disappear with our $1000.

Fortunately we disputed the charge with our credit card company and were able to recover our $1000. Since this time we have found that The Italian Institute has 4 different addresses in Denver. I am filing this complaint because I suspect that Ms. Chiacchio will attempt to scam other people and I believe she may be using a fake business as a front for internet theft. Please refer to the ScamPulse.com listing of "F" for The Italian Institute with complaints by others that they sent money for tours organized by The Italian Institute, but the tours were never arranged.
