KC Tow and Storage Reports & Reviews (1)

My husband was involved in a 3 vehicle accident. It took place on I-70(right where I-70, 71N, and 670 all merge together just before the 9th St/Admiral exit.) at approx. 3:15pm, right before the bulk of rush hour. My husband called the police and reported the accident. Since it was a non-injury accident, they were not be able to respond right away and would dispatch a tow truck. The other two vehicles involved drove their vehicles to the closet exit (9th St/Admiral), but my husband was unable to drive his vehicle due to damage. A tow truck showed up at the scene minutes later claiming to have been sent by the police. (Red tow truck with no letter/name noted anywhere.) He told my husband they he needed to get him out of the roadway and towed his vehicle to the same exit as the others involved. My husband and the other drivers exchanged information. He then told the tow driver where to take the vehicle and the tow driver verbally agreed. (I was present at this point and heard his verbal agreement of delivery location.) A few hours later, we drove to this delivery location to take additional photos of my husbands vehicle. Only to find the vehicle was never delivered. My husband called the tow company from the business card he was given, no receipt/contract was given, and the "dispatcher" stated that they tried to call the delivery location and were told they "were not a body shop and would not take the vehicle". We were standing face-to-face with the delivery location manager and were told this call never happened. My husband requested that the vehicle be towed to this location/town as agreed upon TONIGHT to avoid any storage fees. The towing company demanded they be paid on delivery and we informed him they would be paid. No mention of what tow fee was going to be or that the fee had to be paid in CASH ONLY. Almost 6 hours after the accident and multiple phone calls, a different tow driver shows up with my husband's vehicle on a different two truck (Plain black tow truck with no name/lettering visible.). Now the original delivery location was an auto shop that is now closed, so delivery was to residential location only 1/2 mile away from shop. The tow driver stops in the roadway and makes my husband walk to him, does not pull into the drive. He demands payment for $980 CASH ONLY. They refused to drop the vehicle until it was paid and threatened to take the vehicle back to their lot which would add on additional towing/storage charges. This company showed up at an accident without being call, prayed on a unsuspecting victim of a car accident, and then demanded almost $1000 CASH before my husband's vehicle would be returned. They lied repeatedly to my husband on the phone after lying to our faces at the accident scene. What everyday person carried around $1000 cash that they can easily access at 9pm-10pm? My husband also filed an accident report with the KCMO police and when we mentioned this, the police officer there new EXACTLY who we were talking about and stated they have given them multiple tickets. The only suggestion they had was to sue the tow company, which would cost us more money in the long run.
