Mcafee! Reports & Reviews (1)

- Louisville, KY, USA

Email pretending to be from McAfee security software indicates that my credit card has been used to purchase a $359 software suite. As I never authorized this, I call the number. The man claims he cannot reimburse my credit card; he will need my checking account information. When he reimburses my checking account, he makes a deposit of $3000. He then insists that I purchase American Express gift cards to transfer the money back toMcafee! Red Flag! At some point in the discussion, he convinces me to give him access to my computer. Then my computer screen blacks out so I cannot see anything he is doing.

I log onto my bank accounts and I can see a $3000 deposit to my checking account which is listed by the bank as "pending". When I refuse to buy American Express cards until the money is actually in my account and not "pending", the man becomes rude and belligerent. I immediately shut down my computer and contact my bank. The $3000 deposit is no longer on the account at all; however, this man has attempted to transfer $3300 from my MasterCard to another bank account. He has also attempted to take $1800 from both my checking and savings accounts. Because of a SS# fraud event earlier this week, I had placed fraud alerts on all of my accounts. The fraud alert would not allow the Mastercard transaction to be processed. A customer service rep for the bank was able to stop the two $1800 transactions from being processed.
