Merck Pharmaceutical Spoof Reports & Reviews (7)

I applied for a job position on LinkedIn and was contacted via email from Mike Gibson who claimed to be a recruiter for Merck Pharmaceutical. He scheduled an interview with me and conducted it fully on RingCentral Glip. He asked normal interview questions so I was ignoring other red flags. He never asked for a phone interview. I felt it was sketchy as soon as he never asked for a face to face or virtual (where I can see his face) interview. They sent over an offer letter the next day after the "interview". i signed it and sent it back. I did my dudiligence on the company prior to the so-called interview because a lot of times staffing agencys will be the one making the posting. I saw the company was legit so i thought maybe i was just overthinking it. As waiting for the response after signing my "offer letter" i came across the site where i see the exact emails i was sent being sent to others and it being a scam. So glad i found this before sending out my information.

The same person 'Mike Gibson' had just sent me an email about an Administrative Assistant Position even though I am not a part of the Pharm industry and thus have not applied to any related positions for this company. Got an email about and interview with an attachment about remote work and how they'd send a computer, fax machine and other things. I'd decided to look up the company on Glassdoors and then look up the person in general and he's not on their LinkedIn site. There are doctors with simular names but do not work for Merck. After that I'd googled his name and found this site. Thank you to the previous comments or I might have been interested in doing an 'interview' with this fraud. They don't even have an Admin Position open on their site!

Same here, I felt funny. Continued to disregard the the miss spelled grammar. I’m glad I found this on time my do call “interview” is today!
Thank you

I applied for a job position on LinkedIn and was contacted via email from Mike Gibson who claimed to be a recruiter for Merck Pharmaceutical. He scheduled an interview with me and conducted it fully on RingCentral Glip. He asked normal interview questions so I was ignoring other red flags. He never asked for a phone interview, his grammar wasn't the best, and he seemed to always be available when I was. He then asked me to fill out a W4 form and send to the "HR department" - [email protected]. The email he used was [email protected]. I felt funny after that and started researching it. The job posting had been removed, the domain for the email addresses he used were traced back to namecheap.com and had been purchased only two weeks ago. The next day he asked for my bank account information. I asked why he never needed a phone interview and informed him Merck's website says they would never conduct a full interview via chatting services and their email addresses are very different from his. His response was "what you mean". His grammar skills declined further after he noticed I caught on. I asked for proof the position was legitimate. His responses were: "what proof?" "hr already sent you" and "everything is cool". Oh, and the EIN on the W4 tax form he sent me to fill out and return to him does not match Merck's EIN on their public financial statements.

Received a job interview invitation to be completed on “WhatsApp”. Interviewer gave relevant company information, looking to hire 16 applicants in my area as a new location was being built. Would need to work from home till location built and they would supply the computer and software. I was “approved” as a customer service rep making $40/hr. Grammar was not professional, only wanted answers as “okay” or “yes/no” unless details asked for. Seemed to dodge questions I asked and waited to answer those. Pulled up the website, no location in my area nor jobs in my area.

I initially received a text message stating my resume had been found on indeed.com.They will pose as actual employees of MERCK & CO! If you Google their names, you'll find actual employees. They only do ''instant messaging'' interviews never Skype or FaceTime. I was offered a remote Admin Assistant position in which they sent me a letter including pay rate, schedule, benefits and compensation info. There were no phone numbers on the correspondence sent from these scammers. They will offer to send you a ''start up check'' drawn from a real bank with bogus numbers. Once you have deposited the funds they will then ask you to ''pay for your MacBook'' via CashApp, Zelle, or similar. The forms they use look legit. They copied the company's logo/letterhead/watermark to appear real. They even proceeded to send me a W-4 for completion to further steal your identity! They prey on people who are desperate to change or establish careers! BEWARE!!!!
