I applied for a position with this company. Never did I give them my ssn. I was "invited" via email to a phone interview. It went well. This was after I participated in their "one-way video interview." After the phone call, I was invited to participate in a group interview (though it was really more like a Q & A of sorts. What was interesting, and now suspect, was that I only received the email to the Google Meet link just before the group video. Once I clicked on the link, I was told, via Google, my camera wasn't working though it was. (It was the interviewer who had turned off my being viewed.) Before I proceed, I let me say I was curious to know why I didn't receive an email in a timely manner informing me of the meeting. I mean, after my phone interview, but on the same call, I was given a time/date by James. When I emailed him several days later on the morn of the meeting, he responded that "perhaps it was lost in spam." (What a complete fabrication! The email never went out because they'd hoped I just wouldn't show for the interview!) But, I did, then found I couldn't be seen on camera, until finally,.. there I was! Then, my image was really small compared to everyone else's, but again...they didn't want me there. At some point AFTER the phone meeting, which went well, I was invited to participate in some online tests, including typing tests. My typing was okay at 53WPM, with no errors, but for all the other comprehension tests, I scored "advanced." So, I go through all that, only to be told, via email a few days after the video group interview, they were looking for someone with a better fit. Really? Considering I was the best-dressed person in the group, the only person who leaned forward and showed interest, who didn’t look bored, and the only one who addressed the Minted employees by name, etc., this was interesting. No, I believe Minted.com ran a background check via TrueWork, or The Work Number, and suddenly learned I'd filed for UI benefits in the past. (Folks who file for UI are dinged in their online records with these companies that gather information on their employment history. (Never mind that these orgs make all kinds of mistakes.) These companies advertise they'll keep costs down for their paid subscribers, like Minted, by indicating, once an app is submitted, they shouldn't hire those who've filed for UI. Here's the gist: I never gave Minted.com my SSN, for background checking. What they did was illegal, and for the record, they have no class.
