Motors Trade Group Reports & Reviews (18)

I also found them via Craigslist. Here is what I did to investigate:

Google MotorsTradeGroup. The Website looks legit and promises an honest transaction. However,

1. Searching for the people listed on the site finds none of them. If this is a legit big company, someone should be on LinkedIn.

2. The MotorsTradeGroup.com domain name was registered only 3 months ago - suspicious…

3. I can’t find any info on these warehouses, such as locations or inventory.

4. The email from "Gred Hedding" used an anonymous email service. This is a service where you create a temporary email addresss that is forwarded to your real address.

This was a pretty well crafted site (they even added some fake positive reviews!), but by just digging a bit it was easy to see that things were not adding up.

Unfortunately it seems that the scam has been successful, and they will only get more sophisticated in the future. Do your homework and if you’re not tech savvy, find someone who is. Good luck!

I had a similar experience as others... I saw the ad for a great boat on BoatTrader and contacted the "owner" (Feb 25, 2022) through the BoatTrader app. I heard back from "Greg Hedding", see attached email. Apparently the boat was being kept at the Motors Trade Group warehouse in Canton, OH. Once I started requesting an appointment for a marine surveyor to see the boat communications slowed down. After several emails, I received an response (March 7, 2022) saying he had a buyer waiting for loan approval - didn't hear anything after that.
Luckily I didn't send any money, and that's the lesson here for me - when buying a boat/car/RV, don't send money until you've seen the product, tested it, and confirmed ownership.

We wired $28,000 to Motors Trade Group for a boat advertised by Greg Hedding on Craigs List. The add featured a money back guarantee if the boat was not as advertised on delivery. Motors Trade Group claimed the boat was damaged on delivery and that they would refund my money. The refund did not happen as scheduled, the web site for MTG does not respond and Greg Hedding does not return my emails. I have been scammed out of $28,000 from Greg Hedding.

I wish I found this a few days ago. I’m actually sick to my stomach. Same story as all the others. I responded to a boat on Craigslist, was contacted later and wired the money to motors trade company. Truck was in an accident like others and they are issuing a refund. Everything looked legitimate with the website and the live chat. Do not do business with them.

They don’t want you to see the boats, and offer 500 free miles to keep you away from the warehouses.

Keep reporting them

Replied to a Craigslist ad for a boat. Received a text to send email address to Greg Hedding. Greg Hedding said boat was being sold through a consignment company named Motors Trade Group. They would handle to transaction. I followed the process, wired the money, received bill of sale with a hull ID number that matched the boat I thought I was purchasing. Boat never came, claimed it was in accident. Money would be refunded. Never happened. None of Motor Trade group phone numbers ever answer. Only communication is behind a live chat. The company is a fraud.

He has another one I was interested in, but fortunately saw this article prior to losing $14k

A 2000 Wellcraft 252 Coastal. Priced way low. Got the exact same e-mail that is shown in this post. https://www.motorstradegroup.com/inventory/316065/

Responded to an ad on Craigslist offering a (too good to be true) boat for sale. I was subsequently contacted by "Greg Hedding" who told me that the boat was in Redding, CA (about 600 miles away from me). The website "motorstradegroup.com" seems like a legit website and even has a "chat" feature, which worked after a long wait. Once I mentioned that i wanted to send a Marine Surveyor to evaluate the boat, i never heard back. I also contacted a respected Marine Surveyor in Redding who had never heard of motorstradegroup. After Googling motorstradegroup, my suspicions were confirmed...SCAM!

Ad on Craigslist for a 2002 Parker Boat, $15,000
Contacted by a person named Greg Hedding. Claimed he was the owner and was selling boat thru a consignment company named MotorsTrade.
He contacted me by text and sent follow-up email with information for Motor Trade Company. I followed their process, wired $15,000. Boat never arrived. Claimed it was in accident. Owner stopped communicating. Motor Trade only communication is by live chat. They are a fraud. I lost $15,000. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.

Did a money transfer @ motorstradegroup.com. They stated the boat was shipped but the truck was in an accident. Can't contact the company. Numbers do not work.

This company is not real. You cannot speak to a person. They guarantee that if you wire them money for a boat or car (which is usually half the normal price), it will be delivered with a 7 day money back guarantee. DO NOT DO IT. I almost lost 30,000 buying a boat from them. The seller contacts you with the info and how to proceed with the transaction thru the company. We went to their business address.. they are not there. All the Directors pictures/names on their web site are fake. Unable to find anyone on linked in or on google.
