Dan was to build a patio covering connected to house. We initially signed invoice (contract) May 6,2022 with an agreed start date of June 12. He wanted half up front, which we paid. He then said he needed additional money to secure a spot for laying the cement. He came up with other times when he needed additional funding and some hard luck stories, until he eventually had the full amount $13,700. Looking back, I cannot believe I gave him all the money. All we have to date is a cement slab and a frame. I have had several people look at it and said it was shoddy work and would not withstand the weight. He was also supposed to get a permit, said he did. We went to city planning and no permit had ever been filed. He says he will reimburse us, but we do not see that happening. He has no assets and says he is unable to work due to health reasons. I have not bothered taking him to small claims because another person did take her case there and he did not show up. Another person, William Skidmore said that he also lost quite a bit of money, $7,500 on a building project from Dan the Handyman.

Josh took deposit for work and never showed up to complete work. He continues to make new pages and changes name of business. He has done this to other neighbors as well. He uses the Nextdoor site.

John Elgin runs ads on Craigslist. He gave me an invoice for services and quoted $4800 + $3100 to do vinyl and wood floors. He cleaned out the garage which took 2 hours and then picked up the flooring which took 1.5 hours. He then did about three rows of the wood floor which took about 3 hours. It literally took him an entire week to get started to do the job because he had a lot of excuses. And on the day when he put the two rows down, he asked for $1000. He then texted the following two days saying that his back went out. Then the next day it was an excuse that his son had a doctor's appointment. Then he just stopped texting and not answering calls. He just took $1500 and that's pure scam. 6 hours worth of actual work does not constitute $1500!

He also told me to buy #3 wood which is the worst type of wood imaginable. And that was an additional $600. So I have wood that really is just not good for flooring. I want to be reimbursed 100% since he did not honor his own contract and he won't return or answer calls at the number that is on the contract. He did not hurt his back. If he didn't want to do the job then he just should have said NO before asking for money and wasting my time and money.

(I've tried multiple times to upload evidence but it doesn't seem to show the picture but I can email it to you)
