Received call from young lady who said I had a magazine subscription that was coming up for renewal and asked me if I wanted to renew the subscription and I replied, “No”. I had several subscriptions which I could not remember how I had them and assumed that I had started them some time back and that this was the company calling to renew them. She took my credit card number, telling me that she had to have it to verify it against their number so the subscription could be stopped. Instead, she was charging me for $49.90 (the first of 30 payments they expect to receive. The young lady said that she would transfer me to her supervisor to complete the “STOP” on the renewal. I did not get the young ladies name.

Her manager (I did not get her name as well), got on phone. I told her I wanted the magazines to stop being delivered. She stated that she would have to go through a series of questions and that at the end I would have to say exactly what she told me to three questions and then she would ask me if I wanted to renew and I should say no and they would not be renewed.

.

She proceeded to go through a series of other personal questions that she kept telling me what I needed to answer at which time I should have suspected something was wrong but did not catch on. Then she asked me for the MasterCard number that I used to place the original order and like a dummy I gave her my MasterCard number (she said this was needed to verify the account so the stop on the renewal would take place. Instead she was processing a $49.90 first payment of which another 29 monthly payments would be charged (I did not put two and two together until I hung up). I should have caught this at that time because the MasterCard that I would have used (the one that I gave her) was a replacement for the last card I had and could not have been on file with them. The longer she talked, the faster she talked and I could barely keep up with her. She gave me two phone numbers *** and ***. I called the first number after I hung up and it was not the number for *** *** *** ***.
