As described by many others on this site, we were scammed out of $1,000.00 for a dog ($800.00 for dog; $200.00 for shipping). Then their fake pet delivery service (US Pet Transport) tried to scam us for an additional $1,500.00 dollars. This time they were using Zelle for the money transfer. We had not heard of Zelle but it was part of the USAA app as a way to send money. Note that Zelle takes zero responsibility for any transactions and has no warning anywhere when you go to send money. They tell you to deal with your financial institution. Shame on these financial institutions for associating with this company, especially USAA who serves our military and their family. We ASSUMED USAA had vetted this service which is not true. These predators prey on people's emotions. Like everyone else has said, if it sounds too good to be true it's a scam. Both Zelle and USAA have received numerous complaints about this scam and have chosen to do nothing.

Went online searching for a Pekingese Puppies. First website popped up, https://pekingesepupsforsale.com. I emailed them and they replied quickly. After a short conversation I had a bad feeling about it. Something felt off. After I told them I wanted to hold off another week they took a few days to replay. Did some online searching and found out it was a scam. Glad I went with my gut feeling. They said they were out of the Tulsa area. The dogs were beautiful and they were AKC. They said all the right things but the cost was was too cheap. That was a red flag. They were asking $800 and the dogs were worth a few grand. Felt too good to be true. They asked for payment thru Zelle or a money gram from Walmart.

My husband and just had to put down our beloved Pekingese of 10 yrs. (she had cancer). My husband was obviously upset so are children said we should look for another dog to fill the pain we are feeling now.

We searched websites and finally found one ([email protected]) that looked and sounded reasonable (should have known better but we were still in mourning) that's how we got scammed we let our emotions get in the way and let our guard down.

After many emails/phone calls back and forth with the seller, we finally signed a contract that looked legit enough and sent it back to the seller. (I made copies of all emails/receipt of the $1,000 MoneyGram I sent to him ($800 for the puppy) $200 for shipping.

He had me make out the MoneyGram in his son's name (Nathan Elton) for pickup. His address: 1617 Grove Ave Richmond, Virginia 23220.

The seller texted me when he received the payment and said, he would register the puppy with the airline and brought to my home by a nanny. A short time after, I received a call on 3/10/22 from a man (Alex Moore) saying he was from the transport service (https://uspettransport.com) and in order for him to bring the puppy to me I would have to pay an insurance fee of $1,500!

I told him this was NEVER discussed, and I will not be paying anything more! He told me to call the seller back, which I did and told him what the man said, he said, he would pay $600 and that I could pay the rest and refund HIM BACK the $600 when I receive the puppy!

I said, I paid $200 for shipping, nowhere in the contract, or in any of our conversations did you mention an insurance fee from a transport service. All I want is the puppy we agreed on in the contract or my money back! We had to pay out enormous medical bills only to have our beloved Pekingese of 10 yrs, put to sleep. We have been devastated TWICE what a cruel and heartless person does this to another human being?

I too felt as if this place was legit as the website looked pretty dang good. But thankfully my daughter has worked with rescues and pet adoptions and firmly insisted I look up reviews for this place prior to sending any money. She need not have worried. I wasn't sending a single penny anywhere to anyone without a puppy in my hand.

As we researched the internet, my daughter immediately found this site and another with the terrible stories of people being taken advantage of. These horrible scammers are shameless!

I emailed about a particular puppy and the answer was immediate. They even sent me actual video of the puppy I was interested in! They explained the cost of the puppy ($800) and shipping fee ($200). They said they would create a bill of sale to get the ball rolling.

I told them shipping wouldn't be necessary as my husband and I would drive to pick up the puppy. Upon reading that, they told me that was fine, but they strongly recommended I send a $400 reservation fee for the puppy. I emailed a reply informing them that I didn't feel comfortable exchanging any money except in person once I had the puppy in hand. Ironically, the emails completely stopped.

I emailed them twice more asking what would've a good day to drive to get the puppy. I never got a reply. I knew I wouldn't. Once they realized I was going to let go of any money, they dropped me like a hot potato.

I have sympathy for anyone these disgusting people have betrayed. I will not be separated from my hard earned money. I will find a new little fur baby close to home where I can drive and pick him/her up and see for myself that the sellers are legit.

Zelle funds sent & Date: $1500 for travel insurance, refundable upon safe delivery, with a coverage policy of $15,000. Later, they wanted an additional $1420 for an approved FAA pet create. I did not pay on that due to the Zelle daily transfer limits. The funds for the create would also be fully refundable upon a safe delivery of the pet. Zelle was also the only form of payment they accepted. I asked why no paypal or credit cards.

They told me because of the service fees.

Current Status

I have informed my banks of these transactions and have requested a full recovery of the funds via a dispute based upon fraud. I will not hear the results for several more days.

Investigations on my own

Suspecting Saturday night this could now be a scam. Sunday 2/6/2022 I starting my Google searches on the internet for any information related to either the breeder or pet transport. Seeing that I could not do anything more about additional payments until Monday morning with my banks, I tried to search for information about both the breeder and pet transport company.

Near the end of the day on Saturday, I asked for additional pictures with company logos or local paper to show me that “Snow” was ok. I never received them. Also mentioned to breeder about the information I later discovered on www.petscams.com about the transportation company being a possible pet scammer and requested her to pick up the puppy and don’t use them. I would be in contact with my own pet transport company and give her the details later. She did not comment about the transportation company. When I asked the breeder to email me copies of the puppies documents she was sending. She said that the transportation company had all her original paperwork for their processing shipment of the puppy. Google searches didn’t show any information on names, phone numbers or address. In fact, one address was the Tulsa Sheriff’s department building. No other contacts have been received to date.

I can provide additional information if needed on emails, texts and internet search results.

I sure hope these people get found and shut down for what they are doing. I really wanted that puppy. Being out the money is minor, compared to being out my new little companion pet.

Hi, I'm writing to report a pet scam I experienced this week. Daily details are below:

Jan 7, 2021

I was looking for a pekingese female puppy. I found a Facebook page called: Pekingese puppies for sale. They were advertising a litter from November 2020. I commented to ask if there were any left. Someone responded to my comment that they would send me a private message (in Facebook Messenger). And the breeder did send a message. For every question I asked, he provided an answer promptly. The puppy was $400 (at the time, it didn't occur to me how cheap that was for a registered purebred pekingese). At this point in time, I arranged to drive to San Diego (the address I was given was 3105 Homer St, San Diego) on Jan 17th to pick up the puppy. He really preferred that we have it delivered (using a reliable delivery service for a $100 fee)......but I wanted to pick her up instead).

He asked that I send the money to Jerry Sanders using Zelle and then send him a screenshot of the transaction in Facebook messenger. The email he gave me was: [email protected]

First, when I added Jerry Sanders to my online banking Zelle contacts, it came back saying, the first name was Vincent, not Jerry (and to confirm that this was the same person). When I told him this, he said "let me check" (which now I wonder why would you need to check, the money is going to you, right)? He responded back fairly quickly and said, "yes, it's correct, you can send".

I tried twice, but my bank wouldn't allow it to go through. It just kept failing. In hindsight, that should have been a red flag for me. When I told him it wouldn't go through, he said "try it again but don't put any comment about puppy". I did think that was odd --- so I asked "why" and he said, "so it won't reverse again, put something else". So I did that. And, it came back saying "unsuccessful". I really did start second guessing this guy at this point. But replied back to him and said Zelle won't work, how about Paypal or Venmo? He said Venmo and he gave me the name of Brett Landry (Landry337) to use. Venmo asked for the last 4 digits of his phone number, so I asked for that, and he said it's 3442. So -- the Venmo entry went through fine. He asked me to send him a screen shot of the Venmo transfer, so I did.

A few hours went by.....I asked a few more questions about the puppy and he promptly answered. As I was talking with my husband about the logistics of making the drive down to San Diego, we quickly realized (due to Covid and other circumstances with our other pets) that we should just let them deliver her instead. So I messaged him and said we'd go ahead and have her delivered and how does that work? He responded and said the fee was $100 and t he puppy will be transported to our home address by a pet transportation service with all papers and accessories. I asked if she'd be safely in a crate or what (I wasn't sure if this was an individual or a company or what doing the delivering and I've never done this before). He replied saying, "she'll be safe in a crate". So I said, let's proceed with that plan.

He said after I pay the $100 fee, he will send me the delivery details at that same time and then I will go and have her registered for delivery. I replied to say I'll wait for further instructions from you then. Quite a few hours passed and I had sent him 3 message and so far, he hadn't replied to any of them (unlike earlier in the day). At that point, I thought I'd been scammed and I was out $400.

At 10:20pm, he finally replied. He said he will let me know tomorrow (Jan 8) in the morning to give the exact delivery date and to advise me not to buy anything for the puppy until you receive her. I thought that was a little odd, so I asked why. He stated that the puppy will come with accessories and all the paperwork.

At 6:40am, he sent me a message saying "I'll send you the puppy on Tuesday because I'll be off". As I thought of questions, I sent him messages and he responded.

Jan 12, 2021

At 6:28am, he sent me a message saying "Will tomorrow work for you". I replied yes. He asked that I send him the $100 using Paypal (friends and family, not services). He said the email address to use was: [email protected]. I really thought this was odd -- because it's now the 3rd name/email I've dealt with on this, but then I thought....it must be the drivers Paypal.

He said once he gets the Paypal payment, he can proceed with the delivery registration. So, I did it. And once again, he wanted a screen shot as proof. His next message is asking me for my delivery name/address. And after I give it to him he replies back and says that he will send me the delivery service website and tracking number once he's done with the delivery registration, that way I'll know the exact arrival time. He says he needs an hour to get the puppy ready. This was at 7am.

I decide to message him at 9am and let him know I haven't received anything yet. A few minutes later, he sends me a link to a website called: WeCloak Express https://wecloakexpress.com/shipment-tracking-form/. And the tracking number: PETLEX03583423. And, he says he's done with the registration and the delivery service has sent me an email. By the way, I could never get the link to work to look up the tracking number. I also tried looking up the delivery service using Google and I couldn't find it. Now --- I am feeling like I've lost $500.

I went into my email to look and didn't see anything. At the same time practically, I get a call from 469-630-2820 (but I was working, so I couldn't answer it). They tried calling twice. Then I got 4 texts within seconds of each other. I quickly sent a text back saying, I can't take a call right now. Whoever they were, they wanted to make sure I got the email. I hadn't. They asked me to confirm my email address because they received a failure notification. I confirmed they had the right email. He kept trying to send and it never reached me. So, he asked me to send him an email and he'll reply back. The email address he gave me was [email protected]. Every time I tried to send, it failed on my end. He then asked if I had a Yahoo or Gmail account. I did have a Gmail one.

I finally received the email (he used my Gmail account). He texted several times within a few seconds saying it's very important to read the email thoroughly and respond. That email is attached (called email#1). I did it as a JPEG because every time I tried to paste it into this email or open it to forward it, it shuts down my email.

So, email #1 was informative only, just talking about the delivery details. By now, I have a second email. This is where it gets interesting (it's also attached.....called email #2). This email is basically saying they needed $450 for an air-conditioned crate and that I'd get the money back upon delivery. So, first of all, I still am unable to reply to these emails, my email keeps shutting down. So I'm forced to use text. I ask about the crate. I said "as a delivery service for pets, wouldn't you have these already"? He doesn't really answer my question. Just keeps stating how they want the puppy to be safe and that I'll get a refund upon delivery. I then message the breeder to ask about it. And I ask why wouldn't a delivery service have these already and that I was getting nervous AND should I be concerned paying this to them. He replies back and says, they just want the puppy to be safe and you get a full refund the day of delivery. So, stupid me, I ask the delivery service how do I pay for it. He said Zelle and gives me this name/address to use: Cecil Payton ([email protected]) ----- yet ANOTHER name/email. In retrospect (SO MANY RED FLAGS)!!!!!

I continue to have a short conversation with the breeder. I ask him to send me a receipt or bill of sale or something for the purchase of the puppy. He replies back saying the transfer of ownership comes with the puppy. I said, I know that....but can you just send me a receipt for the $400? He says, "they didn't give me anything like that". I'm SOOO confused at this point (I'm asking myself....who is "they"). He replies again saying, don't worry, you are the owner of this puppy now.

So, after I did the Zelle for the $450, I ask the delivery service again to confirm I'm getting the money back. He said yes, upon delivery will pay with cash. He asked for a screen shot as proof of the transfer. After I sent it, he said, ok, give us 15-20 minutes (at 10:30am). And 25 minutes later, he asked me to check my transaction history and send a screenshot to show it was successful. So, I did that (but now, it seems so shady to me). Now, I think we're all set and they concurred.

At 1pm, I get a text from the delivery service that says, we are sending you an email (it's attached....called email #3). This email is saying that they need another $1650 for insurance (to ensure the safety of the puppy). They say the puppy is in LA and the California VIP Pet Insurance Company is holding it because it doesn't have a life insurance certificate. But, that I will get a full refund PLUS 5% on the day of delivery. UGH!!!!! At this point, I tell them I'm going to speak to the breeder.

I message the breeder and ask why they didn't disclose this to me. He replied back promptly and said, he wasn't aware. But, to go ahead and pay it because I'll get a refund back plus 5%.

So, I ask the delivery service if I can get the address for where the puppy is and I'll drive down to pick her up. I also tell them that I don't have $1650 for this. They reply saying, "pick up at this junction is not authorized by the sector of insurance for pets and animals. We have a responsibility to deliver this puppy to your address". I am convinced of the scam now. And, I just hope and pray that there's not some little puppy sitting in LA somewhere. I tell them to just drive back to the breeder because I can't pay a penny more for this puppy. They reply back saying maybe you can join together and pool money to pay it. At this point, I'm also chatting again with the breeder, letting him know what's going on (as if he doesn't already know). He offers to pay $800, if I can pay $850. I tell him no and that now I feel this is not legit. He replies saying it is 100% legit and don't worry about a scam. I ask the breeder to get in contact with the delivery service and ask them to bring the puppy back to you and I'll drive down and pick her up. He replies saying they can't do that because all the paperwork says I'm the owner now. They can only deliver it to me.

I am now getting lots of texts from the delivery service saying they have to depart in 15 minutes, they need an answer. I reply back saying I can't pay for this. They respond by saying they are going to put the puppy in quarantine for 45 days and then it will be sent to the rescue for pet abandonment and I will be sued because I'm the owner. He continues by saying, "we don't want to put you and your puppy through that stress...so work it out on how to get the $1650". I simply do NOT reply at this point. I'm super upset at my own stupidity! And, that we've TRULY lost $950.

At 10:26am, I get another text from the delivery service. I'm curious, so I just reply "hello". They immediately respond and say they are still waiting for payment or should they send the puppy to quarantine? They continue by saying, "once the puppy is sent to the quarantine, you will be sued for pet abandonment and be charged a fine of $20,000. We don't want that to happen. Give us your final decision". I reply and say, "I wasn't informed about any insurance need prior to the purchase. As I told you and the breeder, I don't have that kind of money. Send the puppy to quarantine if that's what you must do". They reply and say, "once that's done you be charged a $20,000 fine. Are you willing to pay that"? I reply once more and say, "do not threaten me any further or this entire string of scam texts will be used to report you to the authorities. You've taken me for $950 already, this is a closed subject"!

IN CLOSING

After reading all this --- this is a scam, don't you agree? After reading so much information on your site, it's "textbook pet scam". In detailing this out for you ---- I feel like an [censored]! I am too smart of a person to have fallen for this. I can only hope that this helps someone ELSE to NOT make the same mistake I did. NOTE: this person still has the Facebook page active (pekingese puppies for sale). I just remembered that I do have the phone number of the breeder (he called me on Jan 12th at one point, and I missed it, so I called him back). It is: 336-496-2570. I can't even recall what he was asking. I could BARELY understand a word he said.

I have filed a claim with Paypal for the $100 (not sure if I'll get that back or not). I've also filed a claim for the Zelle transaction; but because I authorized and sent it, a reversal doesn't look good. And, Venmo can't even do a claim. You're only supposed to use Venmo to people you KNOW.
