Social Security Department Spoof Reports & Reviews (1)

- Mays Landing, NJ, USA

I received this call 4 times in the last two days. When I answer my phone an automated voice (not human) tells me that my social security number has been "suspend" because of fraudulent activity in Texas. It tells me to press 1 for more information. I pressed 1 on three calls to find out more about this scam. I am rerouted to an "agent" in a room where several others are talking as well. The agent gives me a name and an employee number. I have asked them who they are calling and they will not answer. They don't know my name. I have asked them to verify they are an official agent of the U. S. Department of Social Security and they say yes. When I ask that they verify this through the Social Security department, they only give me their own name and phone extension. As I am writing this, they called again. I asked this one to explain how my social security number can be suspended? He knew my first name and asked me for the last 4 numbers of my social security number. I told him that I would rather not give that, and he hung up. Each person who answered had a foreign accent, which could have been Indian or somewhere mideastern.
