VEHICLE ALERT NOTICE Scam Reports & Reviews (1)

- Missoula, MT, USA

I received 4 or 5 postcard notices titled "VEHICLE ALERT NOTICE" on one side, and titled "VERY URGENT AND TIME SENSITIVE" on the other side, with scary wording about how I need to extend coverage for my auto warranty before the deadline ends.. My actual name and vehicle make/model were on the postcards. I thought the deadline was serious, so I called the number on the postcard 1-888-413-6075. The man on the phone said his name was Sean Hughes, and gave me a list of things his service would cover (for the auto warranty). I eventually gave him my debit card number, it was charged $295 immediately as a "down payment", he gave me a "receipt number", gave me his call back number 1-844-445-0480 extension 1009, and with the plan on have monthly recurring charges (I forget the exact amount for the planned recurring charge, but it's smaller than $295, probably around $200). I felt weird about this all as I did it, but did it anyways. When I showed the postcard to my family later today, they told me it is 100% a scam. I've called my bank to pause my debit card, and now I am reporting it to the FTC and BBB.
