Westside Rentals Reports & Reviews (1)

- Fontana, CA, USA

This individual referred to himself as "Scott". We spoke to him over the phone at (209)264-1730 and he claimed to be the owner of a property in Fontana. He gave us a rundown on the monthly cost, deposit, and application fees. We gave the money by using zelle the next day for the application fees. He sent an email from [email protected]. He included his Zelle user name which was [email protected]. He emailed us copies of the applications. I filled out applications, emailed them back to him and at this point I was out $150.00. He told us we can out a deposit down the secure the home. We gave the $900.00 deposit that same same. He said if we have the first months rent the home is ours and we will meet that weekend to sign lease and exchange keys (knowing we had to give our current landlord a 30 day notice). We sent the remaining amount $1800.00, the next morning. Each transaction he asked me to send a screen shot so he could verify the funds were there. He said he was at work so didn't have a chance to check with the bank. Later that day he sent me a text message saying that he had an offer for us. If we paid 3 months in advance he would give us a 20% discount from the rent. Then said that utilities are included in the rent and he promised that we would be very happy in the house and we could "thank him later". At this time we told him thank you but we'll pay month by month. He said we could always send it through Zelle and he will give us the 20% discount. We still kept on touch during the week by text. Finally Friday comes around I text him to confirm that we are still on for Saturday. He confirmed we're on for Saturday 12 noon. Saturday comes around, we text him that we are at the rental property. A few minutes go by and no answer. We decided to knock on the door are the property and the current renters who did answer the door. We asked for Scott. Nobody knew who Scott was. at this time I called Scott's phone and the number was disconnected. The home in fact was for rent by the owner but the owner's name was not Scott. The current resident called the landlord for us and told us that the house is in fact for rent but he is the owner of the home and he did not have any people working under him to rent out the home. At this point we found out that we were scammed. We thought we did our homework. We spoke to this individual over the phone, exchanged emails, exchanged zelle information, and exchange text messages. This individual who referred to himself as "Scott Richardson" had an accent. He was obviously not a white Scott Richardson. Please be on the lookout.
