I clicked on https://peoplepill.com/people/manuel-pulgar-vidal/ and a pop up took over my screen, simulating a virus and interfering with the operation of my computer, followed by a message from "Microsoft Technical Support" containing a number to call to fix the problem When I called a scammer masquerading as a contractor hired to fix computer security problems asked for permission to have a look at the problem. I cross-examined the scammer who showed me the "company's website" which looked very professional and authentic so I allowed the technician access through a remote login, something similar to logmein.com to enter my computer where the scammer pulled up an error registry with over 20,000 errors and claimed that--what I later learned were records of routing operating glitches were located--actually were evidence of a virus infection. "Your computer is highly infected." Long story short they said they would fix the problem and would then refer me to their cybersecurity engineer to advise me on what security and identity protection software to install. It would take a long time to chronicle the elaborate tissue of lies these people were telling in a very sophisticated scam that would have cost $350 to clean up the computer and thousands of dollars for the identity protection software and as a fallback "cheaper" option, a $300 firewall software. I ended the interaction by pulling my HTMI cable and disconnecting my Wi-Fi and cancelling the credit card I had shared with them so I didn't lose any money but changed my financial passwords and am still in the process of changing personal passwords. The whole experience was a nightmare.
