I had questions about a product I wanted to buy from Amazon. So, I Googled a phone number for Amazon customer service. I found and called 855-507-3720. I spoke to Max Matt who was impersonating an Amazon rep. He stated there were cash transactions from my checking account. I always use a credit card for Amazon purchases. He sounded very legit. He noted there were 2 bitcoin transactions and suggested I check my online banking. The bitcoin transactions, less than $2, appeared on my account as pending. He proceeded to initiate what he called an investigation and asked for much of my personal information, along with a picture of me and my husband's drivers license. He advised me not talk to anyone. This should have been a red flag. But he was extremely convincing. He called back from 321-343-8087 stating it was Max Adams. He proceeded to retake pictures of our drivers licenses because his fraud team needed them. He asked me to go online so we could work together to stop the fraud. That's when I found out that he set me up with Bitcoin using the applications: Connect, Bitcointop, and Crypto.com. Unfortunately I allowed him remote control of my laptop for those applications supposedly to block hackers. When I went online to see if any transactions were made, the small bitcoin transactions no longer appeared on my bank account but he moved my balances around, but no money was taken. On Sunday, 3/09/2025, I called the bank and put a hold on the account and closed the debit card I was using. The gentleman continued on Sunday and Monday to call both our phone numbers until we blocked and changed our numbers. Attempts to wire failed.
