This happened to my friend, for whom I am a caregiver. She was told that ATT was discontinuing her wired phone service. That they would be sending her a device and that her phone bill would be going up. She called me to help her with the transfer of the device, fully thinking that she was dealing with ATT. I got involved and discovered this was not ATT but RingPlanet, who had lied to my friend and was taking advantage of someone who is old and unwell. Terrible!
