I was scheduled for a tow for this morning at 9am. Received no updates on ETA and so at 9:30am, I began calling the tow number provided by my insurance to receive no response. Tried calling a handful more times, still nothing. Then I get a call from a different number where the man, Tony, went right into - "You want the good news or the bad news?" Then Tony went on to explain that insurance companies don't tell you this but they only cover a basic tow and the tow that I needed, required a wench so therefore, I would have to pay $60 out of pocket, otherwise, the driver wasn't going to take the car. He assured me that he deals with this all the time and tried to pin the insurance/dealership to be the bad guys. But of course, Tony to the rescue, could help me after $60. I asked if I could pay CC - he said sure, but he would have to charge be $15 for a CC processing fee. At this point, I began to realize that something sounded very off about this outreach from Tony and so I asked him how he proposes I go about recouping the extra cost from insurance. He simply said, "you probably won't but I guess you can keep the receipt and try to fight it after".

I told him it's fine, still send the driver but I'm going to connect with insurance and get this squared away. After connecting with insurance, they explained to be that none of Tony's story was accurate. Also went on to explain, if and when the tow company would ever ask you for additional money, they must call the insurance company first before directing the additional cost to the customer. Insurance company offered to cancel the tow and to line be up with another company in the area. I made sure before hanging up that I didn't need to call the tow company back to let them know it's canceled - insurance company explained it's already been taken care of and that they canceled for me.

Few minutes later, I get a text from Tony "Thanks for canceling and not telling me. Good luck getting a tow truck".

I tried to call him back, at the very least to explain to him the situation (although he didn't deserve it at this point after trying to scam me out of $60) but of course he didn't pick up. I tried twice more - ignored calls.

BE VERY AWARE OF A-1 TOWING. Classic business that would rather choose to con and scam their customers instead of doing the honest service they should be looking to provide to grow their business. There should be no place for businesses like this at all. Someone must do something to get these guys closed out otherwise, I know others will fall victim to these poor scam tactics!!
