Scammer pretended to be a trusted company by using another's business name. Company pretended to have fixed a leak on my chimney and gave me 10 year warranty but the issue was not fixed. Leak occurred two days after company said they had fixed the issue. Company now won't return to fix issue as agreed thereby violating the warranty. Additionally, I looked them up and they have no license to conduct business since they are using someone else's name. Company is refusing to refund money for work agreed and won't return to make repairs as agreed.

I found them on a website that says they have a 5 star rating. On November 30 When the technician arrived he did not even look at my fireplace which I simply wanted cleaned. He went right up to the roof. Came back down quickly and told me I need a level 2 chimney cap replacement. I said what is that? He said that currently my chimney will take on water etc. I told him I need a detailed description to give to my landlord once he said it is $499. I was only planning on paying a $99 cleaning fee out of my own pocket. When I told him I can't pay that he got his supervisor on the phone and they discounted it to $399. THey were not listening to me when I said I needed a detailed description to present to my landlord. Furthermore he would not leave my house until I gave him the "inspection" fee of $108. In addition they would not forward the detailed description of what needed to be done either. I felt this was very unprofessional. I told my landlord and she recomended another company named Dr Sweep. They came out today and looked at the chimney. The technician with Dr Sweep was extremely professional and told me I should call the police on that other company because they lied!! My landlord just fixed and replaced the entire chimney a year ago!

By the way, the "description" for the chimney repair they sent me did not describe anything other than they were gonna replace th chimney cap and seal around it (which has already been done!) Also when looking at the receipt with my American Express I notice the statement has a name of 4NJNY MI CHIMNEY NASHVILLE TN with a totally different phone number etc.... (724) 713-4033

I just feel the public should know about an outfit like this cause people who are not knowledgeable could easily get taken advantage of. I was taken for the $108 but it could have been a lot worse.

OMG I am trying to upload their receipt from the e mail they sent for the description and it is showing scamtracer and that it cannot be displayed because it contains errors.... this just gets weirder!

here is a copy and paste of it....

Fraudulent company attempted to charge more than initially discussed. Also attempted entrapment in being required to pay up to $1,000 for work that wasn't performed or agreed upon. Attempted to pay company by check to company name but reject it payment to company name and wanted it in a personal name. Upon going further into company's website there misleading information on website saying they have top rated reviews. When sending in my own review I noticed several different numbers they have and other websites they have that connect them back to their website. It appears they have many fraudulent numbers and sites they are connected with. The other site have many bad reviews.

I called for a possible dead squirrel in the chimney. The chimney sweep arrived to inspect, clean, and look for a dead squirrel. He took a quick look at the flue, saw nothing came inside and inspected. He then suggested a "deep Drill" cleaning. He said he found nothing, he said he cleaned the fireplace and flue and gave me a list of items to be corrected. It should be noted that he told me that I was missing my spark arrestor and he showed up without a ladder (which I allowed him to use mine) The smell persisted and my tenant called back after three weeks to complain. I got on there the next morning, went to the roof and looked down the flue to see the dead squirrel on the smoke shelf with quite a bit of debris (ash, dirt, etc..) Also the flue was quite filthy and I seriously doubt it was cleaned. After several hours and quite a bit of work I removed the dead squirrel and as much of the debris as possible. I still need to get another sweep out to repeat the cleaning. I have left several messages, emails and I have spoke with the tech and the office only to be hung up on more than once.

I called looking for a chimney sweep, and was told they had availability in the next few days.

A man showed up in an unmarked vehicle wearing all black (no company logo). He looked at my fireplace from the inside and then walked around the outside and took a quick look. Less than 5 minutes. My husband started to ask him questions, and none of his responses seemed knowledgeable.

Then he went back to car to give us a “quote” and explained he was just there today to do an inspection. Tried charging $99.95 for this 5 minute inspection- which didn’t even include getting on the roof.

Once we said this seemed like a scam and wanted to speak with his supervisor he drove off.

SCAM!

Very negative experience with A1 Chimney with misleading estimate, credit card fraud and extremely poor customer service. Estimator quoted $699 for "extensive 2-hr cleaning" on 9/28 for "Class 3 creosote" in the chimney "about to catch fire" but finished in 20 minutes?! Either he mislead us or didn't provide complete cleaning we paid for. We were charged additional $814 for fragile mortar repair after he deliberately damaged the mortar with our poker! He sprayed black spray paint for "years of use" which looked nice but burnt off on 1st use. Somehow 15% "tip" was added to $1799 bill resulting in $2068 charge and then the credit card was charged twice for over $4,137! Citi Fraud called us that evening and locked our card due to fraudulent double charge.

I called A1 the next business day to inquire what happened and try to resolve our concerns. 1 week later I was forced to provide new credit card # after receiving a very threatening phone call to destroy my credit score, turn us over to collections agency and jail time in Texas! What kind of customer service is that when it was their tech who double charged us?! Over 12 calls to Customer Service team and Manager over 2 weeks went unreturned. I was told owner is overseas and unavailable to help us resolve this. The tech also damaged our driveway banging his tools clean on the way out leaving ashy grooves in the asphalt. He was onsite for total of 55 minutes for $1799 leaving a partially (?) cleaned chimney and now burned off spray painted firebox. Photos at a1chimney.net

I do not recommend A1. They pay for Google ads in local markets with local phone # and website claims to be local (a-1chimneysweep.com/hors…) but they are in Texas and subcontract according to tech. Quality and integrity of contractors and employees and owners is highly questionable based on this very terrible experience. We feel we got robbed. I'm still waiting for call back from Customer Service on $300 partial refund request.

Needed safety check on furnace, and cleaning for fireplace, so search on google for "nearby chimney company" and found this. Called and told Sunday at 9:30 am. At 9:15 I get a call - turns out they're in NY state (scam no. 1) and coming at 10:45. He asks for $ 599 for chimney sweep, $ 599 for cleaning the flue - ten feet only below the fireplace (it collects dust and minimal ashes), 700 for mortar repairs (the cement is coming loose around the pipe around the furnace), $ 400 for furnace cover repair (additional cover to the "hot pipe"). Since his English is poor and he can't even spell furnace ("fernes"), that's out of the question I'm letting this man touch anything. He reduces the offer by $ 250 just by my saying no. Still no. (scam no. 2)

So he cleans the chimney only: it takes about 25 minutes. He leaves a major mess, doesn't even shut the damper properly, leaves no pictures, asks for a tip. Plus tax, that comes to $ 760 for a 25 min. cleaning which I suspect was poorly done - I got no picture, just a big mess. (scam no. 3). I gave the company a piece of my mind, and they refund half; but they should not be allowed to scam people like this. Look at their site, it says they get nothing but 5 stars - look them up online, if you can find where they are (are they registered in TX?), there's a bunch of people who got scammed like I did. (scam no. 4). People, ask your neighbors, don't fall for this.

They buy up reputable little companies and turn them into this scam (no. 5). Shame on you. I'd give a picture is they provide it.

This company is terrible! They do not know anything about the cleaning or repair of a chimney or fireplace. They left soot all over the house. The clean up after they left was massive as they did not prep with drop cloths or mask off surrounding rooms from the dirty work. Our throats were sore for days afterwards from breathing in the soot filled air - even after we did a major cleaning! They replaced our high quality materials with cheap junk and then wanted an exorbitant fee for their work and materials provided. They should be run out of town! DO NOT HIRE! Thankfully we used our Visa credit card and the payment is in dispute.
