Type of a scam Home Improvement
A & M.
I was a perfect fool. I received
No written estimate
No Contract
Nothing in writing that the job was done or fully paid
In essence, nothing to prove that either Luke Mitchell, or A & M ever worked on my property.
Verbal estimate of $900 to repair the depression in front of the garage, and $1.600 estimate for the sealant.
About one-third of the way done the sealing process I was told that he would need to give the driveway and apron two, maybe 3 or more coats, as the asphalt was absorbing the sealant. My choices were to stop where it was, with the driveway only partially complete, or increase the price to around $3,500 or more. I told him to finish it, but that I couldn’t go over $3,500. He stopped again when the job was about three-quarters of the way done and told me this was taking more sealant than he thought.
I felt trapped at this point. In frustration he said he would finish the job, and give me a break on the gallons of sealant used. In the end he told me he used 68 gallons of sealant, but would only charge me for 63. (I have no way of knowing how many gallons of sealant he used, only his word, and that’s not too reliable!)
In the end the job cost me $5,500 = $900 to repair the depression, and $4,600 for the sealant, almost three times the originally quoted price.
Paid for by a check to Luke Mitchell rather than the company, A & M, (I realized later,) so that it wouldn’t be reported as income.
Like I said, this was my fault, but this man’s a con artist who is going to stick it to other unsuspecting, (and gullible, like myself, unfortunately,) people.
