The next morning, I discovered they had not cleaned up my computer, so I called them. They seemed rushed and wanted to make an appointment to follow up on the issue. We set an appointment for a few days out. At our scheduled time, I called them repeatedly for half an hour. The phone would pick up with an auto answer and then disconnect in the middle of it.
I then searched for a legitimate HP support and found one. After telling them what had happened, they said they had heard about this scam from other customers. So I paid them $150 to fix the original issue and make sure the scammers had not messed with my computer. It took them several attempts over several days to fix the problems, remove malware and other nasty stuff. Some was already there and some was added by the scammers. Luckily there was no permanent damage to my computer and at this time no evidence of any other fraud.
