Type of a scam Tech Support
The first and only thing they did was a factory reset and reinstall Windows. When I called for help locating a WiFi network extender connected to my network and a connectivity issue they wanted to do a "cleanse". I asked if that meant another factory reset and they said no, but I would have to provide remote access for them to facilitate the "cleanse". I did so, and they said it would take about 15minutes. I sat in front of my PC in disbelief as I watched the MalwareBytes app appear and perform a complete scan. When it was completed, I asked the tech to go to my Firewall settings. He explained that Norton was protecting my firewall settings and everything looked OK.
This prompted me to ask what kind of firewall support service they were providing if Norton was already in charge. Now he began to
break down the cost of the services I had paid for: $150.00 for a year's worth of factory resets and Windows reinstalls and $96 for firewall support through MalwareBytes, an app I already use!
I accept partial blame for not vetting AARAV out, but their business practices are shady at best. It should have been a red flag when the only way to contact them was by phone, and that it was an 888 number. Oh well, another lesson learned. I hope that someone else will benefit from my mistake.
