Type of a scam Tech Support
For all people reading this:
1. REAL technical support will not prompt YOU to call THEM via ANY type of prompts or warnings. This is exactly like if your Doctor randomly called YOU and told you that your back was hurting and that you should come into the office for a checkup. The Doctor doesn't call you for an appointment, rather it is YOU that calls the doctor to make an appointment. Technical support is exactly the same.
2. DO NOT EVER give remote access permission to ANY technical support agent unless you 100% trust them, or better yet, have physical access to them in the real world (i.e. they're a local computer shop and you know them from in person visits to their store).
3. DO NOT EVER pay for anything (services or merchandise) with anything other than a protected and guaranteed credit card. Only use payment methods that have protections in place by the card merchant that guards potential victims from fradulant transactions like the ones listed above. Above all else, DO NOT EVER PAY FOR ANYTHING USING ELECTRONIC WIRE TRANSFFERS OR GIFT CARDS. This one should be more "common sense" than it appers to be, but if someone is asking you to pay them via a method that results in your inability to force a refund, then it's probably a scam.
4. Lastly, use more common sense. If something doesn't seem right to you, then it's probably not right. Try to do business with your LOCAL computer support companies. There is always at least one in every town. Just because you bought a Dell, doesn't mean you can't get it serviced by the local computer shop. You can and you will always have a better experience because even if the local shop ends up being unethical and scamming YOU, then YOU have all the power you need to report them, take them to court, get your money back and or make sure that everyone locally knows how bad they are. If you're scammed online by some foreigner in a different country, then nothing happens other than you're a victim who's lost their money, time and pride.
