I found a posting on craigslist offering a guesthouse for rent. The scammer asked me almost immediately for a personal email to contact me on, and then asked when I wanted to move in and sent me over a rental application. After I filled it out they sent over a lease agreement to which I responded by wanting to negotiate the terms. Some of their grammar wasn't very fluid, including referring to emails as "this mail" and using terms like "please fill out the necessary and send it back to me." During the process of negotiating the wording of the lease agreement, I attempted to include the word "tenant" however they claimed that doing so would invalidate the contract in some way. At this point I was suspicious and looked up the property address in the county records and found that the name of the owners did not match the name of the individual I was conversing with. I then asked if Abraham was the owner or if he was representing them through an agency, and he claimed that he was the owner. After searching the names of the property owners online, I found the same house currently listed as a Vrbo rental in a post that had the exact same pictures and description of the property as the Craigslist advertisement as well as the initial email that Abraham had sent to me. At this point I was fairly confident I was being scammed.
