I received a letter in the mail that said I was receiving a final notice about a student loan consolidation and Payment Reduction Program prepared specifically for me. They had my loan amount (estimated) and step by step instructions on what to do. I called and they asked me a series of questions including what my FSA was. I fell for it totally and everything was set up (they told me I would pay ~$14 a month for 240 months and then the rest of my debt would be forgiven--that they would handle contacting my loan services, etc.). It wasn't until I hung up the phone and did a little research that I realized it was a scam. I closed my bank account and put a fraud alert on my credit.
