The scammers used my indeed profile online to contact me about a job offer for data entry/administrative assistant. The pay listed was $28 to $30 / hour. They initially texted me about the offer and invited me to download the Skype app to communicate with them. Their Skype profile was different than the name they gave me on the text message. Through Skype, they asked to screen me using my address, which I gave them. Then they spoke to me at length about the job, my qualifications, test questions, etc. After "passing" the initial screening, the scammer, posing as a recruiter, passed me on to a "Dr." from the company I would be working for. I was still only communicating with them through skype. The job was listed as an at-home, flexible hours, hourly pay position. The "Dr." starting asking me questions. At the same time, the initial "recruiter" informed me they sent me a check to my email to secure the position and set up an "at home" office. The check they emailed me did not look legitimate, and I decided to terminate the interview at that point. I told them to stop communicating with me and that I would be contacting the ScamPulse.com about the incident. The following week, I received a larger check in the mail along with a cryptic letter (not on official letterhead) from the "payment department." The letter read:

"Good Day,

How are you doing?

This is Mrs. Ellen Morgan from the payment department; we hope that this package gets to you in good health.

You are to get back to us via email with information on the following:

1. How the funds were disbursed.

2. Exact amount disbursed.

3. The Deposit Slip/Receipt is also required.

Here is the email to reply; ([email protected]).

The deposit slip should be sent to the email above for clearance.

NOTE: If you are told to discard this letter, do not do such.

You must keep us informed on the check and how funds were disbursed from your personal email (By yourself) and not from your employers' email.

Failure to do this is against the company's protocol.

Also, don't forget to email us once you receive the check to confirm deliver.

Kind Regards,

Payment Department"

The check provided looked legitimate, but the address on the check differed from the name on the letter and the return address on the USPS envelope. I was also never instructed to fill out a W-9 form to secure contract employment. I have not attempted to deposit or cash any of the checks.
