On November 12, 2022, my family—my 74-year-old mother-in-law Diane Koget, my wife Jodie Pagano, and I, Joseph Pagano—was approached by Justin Turley from Orbit, offering solar panel installation. Justin assured us that despite my mother-in-law’s income being limited to Social Security and her inability to file income taxes, we would still receive a 30% federal and state tax refund on the project, costing between $80,000 to $90,000. He pressured us to sign the contract quickly, failing to provide all details and leaving us feeling misled.

Months passed without any updates from Orbit, and in February 2023, Justin informed us that Orbit had gone bankrupt. He then pressured us into signing a new contract with Suntuity, again promising tax refunds, no electric bills, and substantial savings. The new contract amounted to $86,101, to be financed over 30 years. We proceeded, but the process was filled with red flags.

When installation finally began, it was fraught with issues: property damage during tree removal, faulty electrical work leaving non-functional outlets, and an unrepaired hole in our wall. Despite repeated complaints to Suntuity, represented by Christy, the issues remained unresolved, and communication was poor.

We were also misled about the loan payment schedule. No paper bills were sent, and since Diane could not access email, we missed payments for six months, harming her credit. My wife and I had to cover thousands of dollars on our credit cards to compensate. Despite being promised a $1,500 refund and six months of free payments, neither materialized. Attempts to contact Sunnova, the loan provider, were unsuccessful.

In 2024, we discovered Diane was ineligible for the promised tax refund, increasing our financial burden. We were informed that if we do not make a one-time payment of $25,830.30 by December 7, 2024, our monthly payments will rise to $467.55. Additionally, we continue to receive electric bills of $100 to $200 per month, despite being told we would no longer pay for electricity.

We believe we were misled and manipulated by Orbit, Suntuity, and Sunnova. These companies exploited my elderly mother-in-law and misrepresented key aspects of the contracts. We are concerned that others may fall victim to these deceptive business practices and request that the ScamPulse.com investigate this matter thoroughly.

We hope the ScamPulse.com will help report these fraudulent practices and protect other consumers from facing the same financial and emotional distress.
