Type of a scam Employment
Skemp set a skype interview (https://join.skype.com/invite/hTKk1kKpFg9V) and subsequently emailed me an offer letter complete with Blue Zones CEO Ben Leedle's signature. Upon signing the offer letter, Skemp sent me a check for $2,700 for procurement of materials (ie a computer) that had installed software the I would need to access the materials for proofreading/copy editing. The instruction was to deposit the check and order the materials via the purchasing department, I also received an email from someone representing the purchasing department.
The check, upon deposit, was put on hold by my bank (Chase). Skemp instructed me to 'go ahead with the procurement of the equipment so when the check clears you can get your money back.'
Uncomfortable, I said I will not be putting my own money up front. I received a notice from my bank today that the check was fraudulent and the service representative from my bank suggested informing Blue Zones and filind a complaint with the BBB. I sent an email to Blue Zones about this prior to filing this scam complaint.
Attached is a copy of the offer letter, and I also have a copy of the check should you need.
Thank you.
