I received a call from a number showing on my caller ID as "DirecTV" this morning, and the person on the other side of the line addressed me by my name and informed me I am "eligible for lower rates on my DirecTV service for the next two years." To be eligible, I had to prepay four months in advance and then I would be billed for a significantly lower rate after that. I was then told that this offer "was in collaboration with Amazon" and that I would have to go purchase Amazon gift cards and provide them with the numbers for them! Since this made no business sense, I told them I would purchase some during my lunch hour and call back. Instead, I blocked their phone number.
