Type of a scam Employment
Robert Owens contacted me through Behance (Adobe creative share space) with a job offer for a vacant graphic designer role. I took a few days to ponder on the message because I was busy with other work but I did not have any initial scam thoughts but I should have right away as there were signs.
Robert Owens later contacted me through text asking if I had seen the email they sent with the job description and I decided to jump on it a day or two after. He then started communicating via Skype claiming that initial pre interviewing would be conducted using Skype text messages and video would be later after hire.
Once again I should have started to connect the dots and also the fact that he texted me with a US area code and the company is based in Switzerland but I did not catch on. There was some creative story telling of how they are branching off to other countries and need graphic designers. They provided a contract and startup echeck as well.
Anyways long story short these scammers are utilizing the strategy that goes like this:
They offer you a $45/hr pay and $20/hr for training (ridiculously high a graphic designer like me who barely has a portfolio of work and experience and I should have read this sign as well)
You are sent a startup echeck to deposit in your bank and use to buy a startup workstation for your graphic design role. Of course the check being fraudulent it will cause your bank account to lock for security reasons. They will ask if check was made available and since not they will claim that due to time falling short you will have to send them money so that they can arrange for your workstation and send it your way for work to start the flowing week. You send money equivalent to check they sent you and they claim some emergency came up with the person you sent it to and that you will have to send it again to SOMEONE else. (They ask that you send the money via fast money sending applications e.g Zelle, Cashapp) All of this is reassured with the promise that your first paycheck to come with your workstation will also have your reimbursement for the initial payments. And that the reason is that down the road after working with them you will keep the workstation for yourself and therefore you pay for it with your money.
Their profiles are nowhere to been found with the legitimate companies they use. There is no legitimate interviewing or video chatting and etc.
PLEASE PLEASE watch out and DO NOT send your money to people you do not know!!!! (and in my case even if it sounds like a dream job you never thought possible with such great pay and would look really great on your resume)
Stay safe out there everyone!!
