Type of a scam Employment
and filled out forms including a fast start direct deposit form and a signed I-9 form on 16MAY22. I was told that I would be given a
check from the company in order to buy a new laptop and the software for the said laptop. On 17MAY22, I received a check from a
place in Indiana for $4865. I deposited the amount into one of checking accounts, and I received an email from my bank that they
had delayed the funds in order to make sure the company could pay the amount. I did received $225 dollars of the check, haven't
spent the money. On 20MAY22, I told Ms. Dominguez that the funds would not be available til next week, and I forwarded the email
to her. She asked me if I was willing to do a partial payment for the equipment, for about $1500 out of pocket and that I would be reimbursed. I told her I could not do that, and I could only spend $250. She told me that I had to buy an apple software card, and I needed to do this today. I went to Walmart thinking it was a type of hardware for the laptop, but instead I come to find out that she wanted to buy $475 worth of apple gift cards. She went to direct me to purchase multiple cards that would equate to some of the money, and then go to another store to buy the rest. She kept asking if I made the purchase, and I kept telling her no. I called my husband to talk about the information with him, and he proceeded to have me ask why I am purchasing gift cards to buy the software. Ms. Dominguez kept saying it was to buy the software, but wouldn't say why it had to be via gift cards. I told her that I cannot afford to spend $475 of my own money, and told her I could give $75 on top of the $225 from the check. She got mad and told me to buy the $300 worth of gift cards, and my husband said to not buy anything until I got a clear answer. The lady kept on asking why I was asking questions all of the sudden instead of just going to the store and purchasing the gift cards. So I told the lady that I did not feel comfortable buying gift cards for a job, even when the money was provided. Ms. Dominguez went so far as to attack my character, and I told her that I think it would be
best to find another person for the job, and that I would gladly transfer the money back once the check cleared. She went on
attacking my character, and asked about the amount I already had. I told her I did not spend it, and that I am just waiting for
instructions to send the money back. She went on to ask for a screenshot of the amount, which I provided, and she told me to go
ahead and still purchase a gift card for $225 later. I told her that I stand by them finding someone else for the job, and that I will
gladly send the money back once it clears. I have not received a reply since. I provided my name, maiden name, birthdate, SSN,
home address, routing number, account number, signature, cell phone, and a picture of my Driver license for the I9 form.
