They said i had a 17k debt from citibank from 7 years ago. Never in my life have I ever done buisness with citibank. I ask the soulless human piece of garbage what the CC # was and they "gave" it to me. Called citibank and they asked for my SS # to verify if I have ever had an account. Nothimg came up. I hope these people have a miserable life.

Just got off phone. I was in tears. Luckily I called my sister who suggested it was a scam. Then I thought back to everything Lynne said during this high pressured conversation. I never even had a credit card for $6k. (Which is what they were trying to get). It was really scary. Just like everyone else on here, they had my social, several addresses, etc. They ran a 'liquidation of asset " report or something like that. I am one of the those who took a huge financial loss due to COVID and still recovering. This was terrifying. Made me feel vulnerable. I sent NPR this link ad suggest they do a report on them. I don't know who else to contact. SO grateful for this site.

Got a phone call last Friday similar to everyone’s. I even made a first payment. When I got home I told my fiancé about what happen, of course he wasn’t to happy. He called up an accountant that he knows and the accountant said it was a scam. I knew these things happen but I was so scared snd nervous to get sued, go to court, and all the embarrassment.

A couple weeks ago, I received a call from someone they were representing Barnes & Associates and that if i didn’t contact them by 5 pm a number and code left on VM, that they would proceed against me. I called that number and spoke with someone named Lynn. She stated she had an old credit card debt they purchased on Feb 15, 2022 that was for a Household Orchard Bank for about $500 and they were collecting $2090 to cover fees, etc. My gut was suspicious since I don’t even recall a Household CC. I told her I would contact Capital One after she said they bought Household Orchard. I tried getting more info from her but she said go ahead and call Capital One. When I called them they directed me to their fraud department. I spoke with a gentleman providing him of all the details of the call with Lynne. He put me on hold a couple minutes and came back on saying they suspect this is a fraud and providing me info to file a complaint, etc. He also told me if they called again to get their name, legal business name, address, phone and professional license number. Today I received another VM and I called them back and spoke with Lynn. She said they are a third party source and know nothing of a license or who they bought the credit from. I told her I, like Capital One, suspect fraud. She quickly hung up and I first searched the state of WA laws for debt collectors. They are required to have a professional license and post a bond before any debt collecting. Then I found this site while searching Adams Barnes & Associates for any scam or fraud. So glad I came across this and hope they are stopped.

Monday, 5/2/22, I received a call from a lady named Nicole, who left a message on my personal cell phone, stating she was calling on behalf of Barnes & Associates, reaching out on notice of pending action for my county (she named my county) and due to no contact from me. she instructed me to call 888-414-1663 with reference# 794383 for information. advised me if I did not make contact today by 5 pm their office will move forward without my consent. Stated that I have been notified of the impending action. So, worried what this could be (at this point, not really suspecting a scam) I called. I was told it was from an old balance on an account from Wachovia Bank and that Wells Fargo was their customer and had bought all of Wachovia's debt, etc. His name was David. He told me the amount was $1094.80 but it could be settled without litigation in the courts, but if agreement not reached they would move forward on behalf of their client. Supposedly, they were the "middle man." I told him it was only about $200 something and was over 20 years ago that the statute of limitations had long since passed. He stated that because of the "tolling clause" that the statute of limitations does not matter and they are allowed to pursue this legally. He said all the extra was legal fees, etc. I felt pressured and the sense of urgency (all this time I had received "cyber" training at work, but I still trusted this was legit, not thinking it could be a scam.) Well, all I could think of was the embarrassment of being served on my job, and so we worked out an agreement, for my first "down payment" to come out this Friday, 5/6/22 and then a set time monthly. He told me I would save "x" amount of dollars if I paid it all today. I told him I could not do that. (I still can't believe I fell for this!) I asked for documentation but all they sent me was a settlement agreement. I went ahead and filled out the form on my email and sent back to them. This was around 9:30 am. At 5:30 pm, when I got home, I pulled my account and was checking on something else and noticed they had taken out the amount 4 days early! I was furious because now my account was in the "red" negative balance. I immediately called David and was furious to say the least! He knew why I was calling and immediately started apologizing and said it was a "clerical" error and that he had issued a credit for the same amount. By the way, it showed up on my account as SE Associates LLC in Ontario, California, and he said that was their "merchant". He also said their other "merchant" was AD Associates LLC. I told him there was not a credit there yet on my account and if it wasn't posted my midnight, I would also have an NSF charge for which they would be needing to reimburse me for. He said it would be on the end of the "settlement." I told him I wanted to know who is over the "accounting". He gave me "Mike Jones" ext. 104 and he was the head supervisor. so I got off the phone and tried to start thinking this out. I wished I would have thought, I'm usually not gullible like this guard, but I've been dealing with a death of someone close to me and this just caught me off guard. So I typed in their company name on my phone and immediately saw this site listing scams. So I decided then I would 1st call my bank this morning 1st thing and see if there was a credit coming through that I could not see on my mobile banking yet. My bank said there was no credit coming through. I told her I thought I was a victim of a scam. She made the report and did the request for the funds to go back on my account. I also requested my card to be canceled. I called Adams & Associates this morning and spoke to the supervisor over that department. He "assured" me that the reversal was done. I told him it didn't matter anyway, that they were being reported as a "scam" and my bank was taking care of it all. I hung up on him.
I still am having a hard time realizing I fell for that. My local DA and Sheriff are going around town giving programs to educate the public on scams and how to avoid them and probably how to report them. I'm going to go to one tomorrow night and see how to report these people.

Got a call saying legal action would be coming in a few days from my county office and to call with a file number. Called and talked to leo curtis. he said he was working with barnes and associates for a credit card from 2010 and that even though it was past the statue of limitations they can still sue under a tolling clause. I told them to send me documentation. I received a settlement offer of $2000 from the supposed 8000 debt. The offer wanted me to sign and the info they provided showed me nothing about the debt. I called back in a day and talked to leo again and told him I had researched and found a lot of scams from people they were trying to pull and that I had a discharged bankruptcy from 2014 discharged and they basically they were a fraud. He told me to send a copy of the bankruptcy to them. I told them to call my lawyer but they wanted me to so I hung up. They originally said the card was from chase but the offer showed a different card. I never had either one. Total scam to get people upset and pay.

My employer received a call from a Company that said they were going to serve papers on me. One of the other dispatchers took down the information called me with information.

Adams & Associates 877-735-2825 file# 2021-103929. I called the number back a gentleman answered Nick Vega saying I had outstanding debt to Washington Mutual credit card from 2008 -2012.

He first said the debt was $12,000 dollars, then he changed it to $10,000. Said they were going to garnish 25% of my wages, put a lien against our house, freeze our checking accounts, lien of my husband’s truck and several other things if this went to court. He ask me why I had called when I got the first letter, it was sent to the wrong address he finally said. He could stop me having to go to court. He put me on hold said the attorney said it I paid 65% then he said 50%. I keep asking him for information he finally said Washington Mutual had been bought by Wells Fargo but they would not have any record of the credit card. I have never had a credit card from Washington Mutual. He had my SS, my work information, our address, and my phone number. While I was talking to this guy they also sent a text to my husband’s phone. I was so upset I setup payments $317.00 for 25 months. Then he said if you have $5,000. The account will be closed. After I hung up the phone and last night the more I thought about this the more I think it is a scam. I googled the Company nothing found for a collection agency, I googled the phone number said it was a scam. He also googled me his number 323-313-1426 scam on that number also, I googled his name Nick Vega that came up with Scam his name with a different company for the same kind of scam. Also nothing from Washington Mutual has ever showed up on my credit report.
