I was contacted about a job that I didn't apply for at AddShoppers. I didn't realize at the time that I hadn't applied because I've sent numerous applications in the past week. The scammer asked for a questionnaire to be filled out with generic interview questions, the only personal information being my first and last name. Throughout, the scammer had a sense of urgency and desperation which was a red flag to me, but I continued hesitantly. Further, I realized after the fact that the scammer only signed with the signature Aden Miller and Addshoppers picture the first time, and left it off ever since (presumably due to laziness as the signature isn't auto-generated). By the time they came back with saying that there's a training period with $25/hour versus $55-$69/hour, I was heavily suspicious by that point so I researched the company, found that Aden Miller had no presence on LinkedIn for AddShoppers, and contacted the company to determine if it was legitimate. The company got back to me the next day saying that they did not send it, and the scammer got back with a generic fake check scam response, which at that point I knew was obvious. The following is the whole email chain sent:

Hello _____,

I'm happy to notify you that the company has chosen to hire you as one of its Full Stack Software Engineers based on your level of expertise and your working abilities. I'd like to congratulate you on behalf of the company. Currently, there is a chance for you to join AddShoppers, Inc.

Your expertise, abilities, and experience, in our opinion, would be a perfect fit for our creative team and significantly contribute to the expansion of the company.

Every day, I'll email you your responsibilities, and I'll be available online to walk you through them. After setting up your workstation, you will immediately begin a 3 to 5 day online training session via Zoom.

We will start you at $65 per hour and pay you weekly via wire transfer, direct deposit, or check, depending on your preference. Employee benefits include health, vision, PTO, 401k and dental insurance, as well as employee wellness. After 3 months of working with us, you will be enrolled in other benefits.

We will communicate virtually until you have worked with us for 5 days. After that, you will be given a user ID and password, as well as a link to the company server and a list of contact phone numbers for various departments, as well as all necessary forms to fill out.

Before you begin work, you will be paid (via check) to set up your workspace by purchasing the office equipment and software required to begin your training and work.

You will receive your Employment Offer Letter shortly. We want you to start training as soon as possible.

The hourly pay ranges from $54.81 to $69.23, and the training rate is approximately $25. Depending on which option you choose, you will be paid each week either by cheque or direct deposit.
