- Euclid, OH, USA

Someone calling themselves Margaret Taylor said that she found my resume on ohiomeansjobs.gov. The email said that I've been invited for an interview. This was supposed to be a remote position. The following is an excerpt from the email:

"I work with Shiloh Cabinetry as the store department sales/marketing director. I have just started a sister company, Opcaorio Cabinetry. I am in need of a Virtual Personal Assistant with solid experience that can work with me.

Work is flexible, 40hours a week. Pay rate is great $25/hour, fully equipped gadgets paid for and training bonus.

Reply to this email if you're available and interested for more details/schedule interview."

I just had the Skype interview. At the beginning she was calling me, but there was no button to click to answer the Skype call. There was only a hang up button, which kept hanging it up. I offered to screen shot what I was looking at, then she responded, "This interview will be conducted via 'Skype Private Chat' not video call. I am not available for calls not in a good shape, I have been battling with Covid for a while now. This is the reason I am needing an assistant to carry on work for me as I get better as I have so much on my plate. That was misdialed."

So from there, it was all just a message interview and we never saw each other's face. This was very suspicious to me.

At the very beginning she said that at the end of the interview, she will send me the job application form to sign and send back to her. This was suspicious in retrospect. Who sends the application after the interview?

She said that this is a complete start up company. I asked if there will be any team members. She said no, just me and her. I asked of her background and she said that she been with Shiloh Cabinetry for over 15 years.

I'm glad I checked bbb.org. Someone reported this exact experience several months back, and said that their interview was also a message only in Skype. I guess she suffered with Covid from January to now April. The address she mentioned as her location is **** ******** **** ********, Ohio 43026. I searched her area code she provided and found is a Texas area code: 520-686-7318.

I uploaded to bbb.org her job application form that she sent me after the interview. On the application it states to send back the application with a copy of either my birth certificate, driver's license, or passport. I guess that's where all of the real scamming begins.

I looked up her address on Google Maps, and it points to an empty unoccupied business lot.

I didn't go further with the process. I didn't return her application.
