ADP Spoof Reports & Reviews (2)

I was sent a job ad from a relative via email. It was said to be from the company ADP. I printed checks and labeled and sent them from a list that was emailed to me. I was told that I would be reimbursed for all of the supplies that I purchased including a printer, ink, paper and office supplies.

I was promised a check after working for the company after a month.

Well after doing this for a month I waited a week for a check that never came; I was told that it was sent to the wrong address.

Looking back I can see where there were subtle signs the whole time.

- Austin, TX, USA

Scammer posted a telecommute job posting on the Facebook group: Austin Digital Jobs. It requested that interested applicants send them an email or text. I sent an email and got a reply right away and began a back and forth exchange with them. I sent them my resume, they sent more details about the job position, answered only some of my questions, and then they sent me an email with Application Criteria on it. I thought it was a small business (informal) so it didn't seem out of the ordinary for a Personal Assistant-type role, till I clicked on the website link they included that said adp.com and discovered ADP is way too legit of an organization to proceed with recruitment in this manner.

I dug a little deeper on ADP's website and discovered there have been MANY scammers posing as ADP recruitment employees. I stopped emailing with them at once, but they had already obtained my full legal name and preferred name, my last three addresses, phone number, and email. It was when they asked for the name of my bank that I started investigating and stopped emailing- no one does that until you've already been hired and completed your W-2 and I-9 paper work.

Luckily they didn't receive any bank information from me, and I hope that what they do have isn't enough to create trouble. I will archive the email exchanges, have since blocked the sender, cleared my browser data, and will do a virus scan on my computer as well just to be safe. During this Coronavirus pandemic, I do not have the luxury of freezing my credit to ensure they don't open credit cards in my name. I have lost my job due to the pandemic, and am living solely off my credit card while I search for work. I pray they are unsuccessful in doing anything with my information.
