Advance Fee - Home Loan Scam Reports & Reviews (1)

- Cypress, TX, USA

My husband and I were attempting to procure a home loan. The builder for our home had a partnership with a lender. We accidentally contacted a lender with a nearly identical name, instead. I attempted to verify the identity with our realtor and builder, and they did not indicate to use that we had contacted the wrong lender.

The lender we contacted originally required a payment of 10% of the cost of our loan, or $2,930. We paid the money via wire transfer on December 30, 2022. About a week later, the lender then asks for us to pay our private mortgage insurance upfront in the amount of $8,790 with the promise that it would be refunded in 6 months. This was a red flag for us; we did not pay this second amount.

At this point, we realized our mistake in contacting the wrong lender. We asked for a refund of the original amount of $2,930 on January 8, 2023. It was promised within 7 business days. It never came, and then the website and email became nonfunctional. Any traces of the lending company completely disappeared online.
