Type of a scam Employment
An attatched PDF instructed me to contact the hiring manager, a Marc Espinoza (who I couldn't find on the real company's LinkedIn page) at, for an interview on Google Hangouts, upon which I began noticing the red flags. Unprofessional spelling errors and punctuation, etc. The interview format was by chat, and was very unusual in format. They asked me to browse "their" website, then asked my wage and work hour preferences, and then proceeded to ask mostly standard interview questions.
A few of the questions and answers also raised red flags, as they said the position would be remote, unless I was promoted, upon which I would be moved to an office in my region. I live in about the middle of nowhere. No legit international company would open a branch in my region just for one graphic designer who was promoted.
They also offered me $45 an hour after training, which is more than twice the average going wage for an entry level graphic designer.
The next day they congratulated me on being hired and after asking to send me employment documents by email, told me they were going to send me a check to purchase a "virtual office server" I would need to work. Realizing that my suspicions were true and they were trying to scam me, I made an excuse to leave the chat. No real company would send a check to purchase equipment, they would order it themselves. I haven't heard from them since, although they'll probably try to follow up eventually.
