It popped up as a window on my Mac, and I couldn't get rid of it. It claimed that my Mac needed "cleaning" and offered to do it. I was not interested, but I couldn't get rid of the window...it wouldn't close and the "No Thanks" button did not work. It was there again today, so I called the number given and asked them to please remove the window. The heavily accented man began to explain that my Mac had originated the window because some files needed to be removed. He said he needed to get into my computer to remove his window. I told him that I didn't know him and didn't want him in my Mac. Saying it was the only way to remove window, I let him in. He proceeded to try to convince me to "clean" my Mac. I asked if money was involved. It was: $299.99 for 2 years or $499.99 for life of the Mac. I said no. He kept trying to convince me. I got angry...another man, saying he was a supervisor, also heavily accented, took the phone and offered me the cleaning job for $8.00. I very angrily told them to get their stuff our of my computer or I would report them. They agreed at that point and took away two of their icons. In checking inside my Mac, I found the Advanced Mac Cleaner icon still there. I keep uninstalling it, but it keeps coming back. I did change the password for my computer immediately, but I do not have a good feeling about this at all. I wanted to tell someone about it in case it is a fraudulent deal. I would hate for other older people to fall pray to it.

My calendar notified me that it was time to clean my Mac then I was suddenly taken to another site, which ended in three days of nightmare for me. First there was a Sam who after questioning was from New Delhi with Avangate. He even showed me all the ScamPulse.com and other bureaus they were accountable to. Then a technician named Anikita Singh worked on my computer because it was working slowly, but advised that if I had problems I could call 877-958-7560. When I did because I was now having more problems, I got a guy called Roger, then Richard Cooper at 818-850-5360; and finally the last and obvious big boss was named David Willis Turner.

Everyone had very Indian accents, and when I asked “Roger” if he was from Pakistan or Bangladesh he irately said “I hate those people”. Right, like a thief from either of those countries is better? I have given names and numbers to perhaps help others, however they will probably change everything as they proceed.

David Turner said they would refund my money immediately when their "fixes" didn't work. They went into my bank account, yes, I gave them permission, and I watched them post the money to my checking account from Bank of America, but it was $4,000 instead of $400. Richard Cooper said if you don't repay that I will loose my job, and David said that Richard would be fired because he had entered the wrong amount. He said it was because the system was running slowly and he accidentally entered an extra zero. They said I could keep the $429 but would need to send Money Grams to the accountant (Kevin Fitzpatrick) and the assistant accountant Irwin Goltzman in India immediately. I complied by sending the money and then giving them the reference numbers.

They now have $3,500 of my very hard earned money. I thought that I was above being duped, but obviously I am not, and I at age 70 am almost $4,000 poorer.

Macs and their owners are not impervious to the evil hearted people who prey on anyone they can. They are heartless, but I pray that we are not helpless and solutions can be found.
