I received the 2 bottles of cream within the next few days and never really thought twice about it. UNTIL...15 days later, I had charges on my credit card account for $140.89 and $147.44. I was alerted of these charges via email by my credit card company. I contacted Capital One immediately to report these unauthorized charges. They then informed me that, unfortunately, upon accepting the S+H charges, I had agreed to a 14 day trial period where, if my "subscription" I had signed up for was not canceled, I would be charged the full amount for the products. I had no idea of this stipulation and the company could not help me as I "agreed" to this. So, 2 little bottles of skin cream have cost me $400 CAD..outrageous!
It was not clear in any way that I had agreed to this deal and surely not to a monthly subscription nonetheless! There was no information about a 14 day trial period that was obvious when signing up for the "free" trial. As advised by my credit card company, I called the numbers they gave me for these companies to cancel my subscription immediately as canceling my card (which I also did) would not be sufficient as they still have my account number.
Upon speaking to the person at this number, he claimed my accounts were now cancelled as I requested and gave me a fishy cancellation number as confirmation. I demanded a full refund as I had not authroized these charges. He stated that I had agreed to these terms of the 14 day trial period. I told him these were not written anywhere when signing up and he told me that the terms were in the fine print of the shipping and handling terms. He agreed with me that these terms were likely buried in an obscure area. I was very stern that I had NOT agreed to this and demanded a full refund (several times). No deal. I have called several times since then to complain and demand a refund. Shockingly, they have not hung up on me. I informed them that I was not happy with the product and demanded a refund but, interestingly, the getskinready.com website that appears on my credit card bill is no longer functional in order to prove that they had a 30-day-money -back statement on this website previously (in hindsight, I should have taken a screenshot!).
It is so obvious to me now that this is a complete scam. Every charge on my credit card shows a strange website address from strange locations such as Tallanstown, Ireland. I cannot now retrieve any of the pages, nor a direct link back to the main product. I have been given completely different and varying cancellation numbers and several phone numbers to reach them (although they have always answered and not hung up me).
I have received 2 emails and 2 separate phone calls since then to confirm the cancellation of my subscriptions but felt I had to call them several more times to really let them know how I really feel about this awful scam (in not so nice words!). I am completely mortified that I fell for something so obvious and stupid. I feel like a total fool! I have ordered so many things online and have never had an issue, never once. This is a difficult life lesson for me and now I am out $400 CAD for this ridiculousness. BUYER BEWARE!! If something doesn't feel right, stop! Read all the fine print (but if they have something to hide, it is difficult to find!) even in the Shipping and Handling terms, order from trustworthy companies. Don't allow yourself to be taken like me!
