I was contacted on Thurs Sept 5, 2024 via email by Stephen McCosh stating that they had found my resume on Indeed and wanted to interview me for a job as a Data Entry Clerk. I was to contact Hanna Summa on Microsoft Teams, which I did. They gave me the Adven website and asked that I look at it and read about the company. They were soon opening an office in the Tacoma area and would officially open later this month. They told me their first office was in Willimington DE and this was where they were launching into the American Market. It seems like they said they also had an office in Texas.
Hanna said that I qualified for the job. And that I should contact them the following morning at 8:00 for on-boarding. They sent me all the usual documents – offer letter, W-4, I-9 and a company code of conduct. They said that I would get paid for all this pre-work time. They still were iffy on an actual start date. I was eventually told the start date would be 9/22/24.
I was told on Friday morning that they were sending a courier with a check for the office equipment, so we continued with the on-boarding process. Then I was told the courier was not available and that they would email the check and that I should print it on a color printer and deposit it via mobile deposit. The check is drawn on Chase bank. I had not previously used mobile deposit. Then they told me I was required to check in with them on Saturday morning. They used the word “required” a lot. When a new employer says you are required to do something, you comply.
Then on Saturday, I thought I was to start the purchase process so the equipment would arrive for my 9/22 start date. Instead they had me install CashApp on my phone and convert some of the funds to bitcoin. Red flags went off and I am having no more contact with them. I found a report by the Better Business Bureau that dang near exactly describes what I got caught up in.
During all of this I had issues with trying to get answers. I thought it was because I was dealing with people in Europe until the Tacoma office opened and I could deal with US based persons.
