They called and said my electric was going to be shut off for a past due bill. When I told them I was looking at my account they said it was a $2,000 deposit for a smart meter they installed. Told me a certified letter was sent that explained the deposit and it would not show up on my bill. They would only accept payment from a third party and it had to be done within 45 minutes or they were going to disconnect service. They told me to call them back when I got to the third party place to call them back and they were going to text me a bar code to make payment. When I asked for a copy of the letter be emailed to me, before I sent them anything, they hung up on me.

Said they was aep and if we didnt pay they would disconnect our service

They claim they are about to shut off power unless I give them banking info and prepare to transfer almost $2000 immediately to them. The caller ID said the call was coming from an individual, and the fact that I knew we had a credit balance with AEP tipped me off.

The number came up as a Berne Indiana phone number , I answered it was recorded voice stating they were AEP and I need to make an immediate payment or my electric would be shut off. They asked for my banking acct information and I hung up immediately.

Mark asked me to login on my banking app & go to "pay bills" add "Zell" to make a pymt, cause AEP website was down, with this claim # JB1889A deposit/send $495.15 to 475-295-7743. I told him it was "pending" so he told me to take a picture of the screen & send it to his number 260-645-5886 so I wrote "NO" on a paper & texted that to him & he asked if I sent the text yet & I told him, yes, I waited a bit & hung-up on him. This would be the 4 time they called, 2 on voicemail, 2 talked to me & I contacted AEP to file a claim with them afterwards.

Yesterday was the second time a man has called acting like he is with AEP and is going to turn off our electric unless we pay him. My boss almost fell for it the first time. She brought me the phone all panicky. When I took the phone from her I asked what location he was calling about. He answered with our mailing address, which is a UPS store... lol So I said, go ahead, we are not even located at that site. The same guy called yesterday and tried the same scam, stating the same address, which is not our location. I hope other people realize that Utilities don't call demanding money or they are turning of the power right that second. It is always best if you receive a phone call that you are unsure of to tell the caller that you will call that provider yourself. That way you don't lose in the end.

A guy called my place of business saying that the electric service would be turned off today if we did not pay our bill. I said "AEP?" and he said "yes". I told him I would call him back. He gave me a phone number of 1-844-548-8601.
