Details: I answered after the second ring. When I said, "Hello", there was a brief pause before a recorded message, in a female voice, advised me that I had won a $999 credit from Air Canada, and that I was to press "1" to receive the credit, or "2" to be placed on the 'Do Not Call' list. I did neither, but kept the call open while writing down the details. As I wrote, the call was terminated by the caller without further comment, message or direction.
"...9755" is my cell; "...1455" was the number shown on my phone's CallDisplay.
I do NOT believe that I, or my phone number, was particularly targetted, but merely randomly chosen.
I do NOT suspect that the registered user of "...1455" (if same IS in use) is involved in this attempted scam, and that the caller merely used a device and / or software that randomly chose THAT number in the HOPE that I would be more susceptible to answering a call from a local-exchange # as opposed to "Unknown Caller / Number".
I will be sending this intel to the Anti Phishing Working Group,the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre, SaskTel (my phone service provider) and Air Canada for information of all 4 Agencies.
I have not, nor will bother, reporting this call to Weyburn Police Service nor the Weyburn RCMP Detachment as I am well-aware that neither of them are able to follow-up on such calls, nor would either one of them sending out warnings to the Weyburn area be of any use in stopping such calls, nor persons falling victim to same.
