A group of middle eastern men and women who drove a rental SUV approached me at a bus stop and offered me gold jewelry. They claimed that are from Dubai and their wallets were robbed. At first, I rejected the offering, Later on, they asked me to direct them to a gas station nearby. I got in their SUV and directed them to a gas station. Inside their car, the men claimed they were millionaires and told me that I was their friend and offered me gold jewelry for free. They said they need to go back to San Diego from San Francisco ASAP. The man said his wife was pregnant. At that point, the man asked me to fill the gas for them. After I agreed to do so, he asked me to borrow cash in exchange for keeping their jewelry. They said they would contact me back and wire me back cash. He swore to Allah and said how desperately that they need to go home. It ended up I withdrew money from ATMs and I bought gift cards for them. They gave me a Rolex at the end and praised my good heart.

I visited a local pawnshop to check the gold jewelry. The shop owner told me that I was scammed. There are middle eastern men and women with minors in some cases who have been doing roadside assistance scams in exchange for fake gold jewelry, fake Rolex watches, or fake luxury items in the last couple of years in Canada, Europe, and the United States.

The scammer tried to reach me on the phone and send me QR codes from Aladdin Muhammad and ask me to send them more money on Cash App and PayPal. While I suggested they could get help from U.S. CONSULATE DUBAI’s contacts, he even asked me what it was.
