The scammer used the name of an actual employee at a legitimate business and created a domain name close enough to the official company's to pass for a legitimate offer. I am currently searching for a specific job and somehow they obtained that information and tailored the scam to exactly the position I was looking for. I did send them my social and Driver's license photo as it seemed pretty legitimate as to how they went about it. No spelling or grammatical mistakes were made and everything was very professionally done. The initial contact passed me off to their "director of HR" who then requested my information via the email. They then emailed me a check to deposit for purchase of video editing equipment. This is where certain discrepancies from the original contact person's information began to arise including the check which was from a very random company which had seemingly no obvious connection to the hiring company. They then connected with Google chat to talk through the process and more discrepancies were becoming apparent and I called the actual real company and uncovered that there had been several similar scams reported to them which seemingly came from their office but had not. I'm always vigilant in watching for scams and this one got me surprisingly deep in before I pulled the plug.
