Scam and check sent to my house

This person sent a check to my house and wanted me to deposit it in my account. He also wanted me to buy 4 $500 dollar American Express gift cards from 2 different stores. He messaged me and asked if I completed the assignment. I responded and said I’m not falling for your scam. I ripped the check up and through it away.

Advertising secret shopper job. Received a fraudulent cashier's check from First Federal Savings Bank, Evansville, IN. I called the bank, and they verified that the check is fraudulent. I was asked to cash the check and purchase AMEX cards and provide feedback on the store.
