Exact same think just happened to me. They kept breezing by my questions about what the actual job would entail and pushing on to the next step with copy and pasted answers. When they ignored my question for the third time and told me they would be sending me funds to get my office equipment and was I ready to receive the funds I finally said, "No I really need to know more details about the job before I make any purchases." They went offline.

I received a text about a work from home data entry position posting through a legitimate employment site. I filled out some basic questions. Next day I received a text to contact the hiring manager through a link in the message for Aldridge Pite LLP. Clicked on the link and answered a few questions. Then I received information to sign on Microsoft Teams. I clicked on the company and reached the “hiring manager” who introduced himself and explained the job and the rate of pay. I was told if i accepted the position that I would receive a check from the company to purchase all of the equipment I would need to set up my home office. I was sent a letter of acceptance outlining the job and confirmation of acceptance. I was also sent a check to purchase my equipment along with a form to set up my direct deposit. Which I completed and sent back. It was a standard offer acceptance contract outlining paid benefits after my probation period and after 1 yr.

I deposited the check by mobile deposit. My bank placed a hold until it processed. He kept asking me if it’s went through. This happened over the weekend. On Monday it still hadn’t cleared; so he asked me to hold on he just received a message from the accounting dept. Someone had tried to hack the accounting fund. As a result, the system cancelled all checks sent out since Friday. He had me call the bank to cancel the check. Since I couldn’t send money to one of their vendors and was unable to start with training due to bank holding funds, he had a different position for me. This one was collecting payments from clients through cashapp or Apple Pay. Then at the end of each day I was to deduct my commission and go to the atm and transfer the funds into bitcoin. I could wherever else I wanted to get benefits. This job was going to pay me a lot of money. I questioned him all through the process of setting up the apps. It didn’t make sense to me. So I told him I wasn’t going to do it. It all sounded like a scam. He argued it was safe and it was legal. At one time he said it was his business. I said I thought this was for the law firm. He said he meant that it was job. I told him I wanted the job I was originally offered and accepted. He all but said it didn’t exist. Just kept going back that I would like this so much better and how I would make so much more money.

I had researched the company when I was first offered the position. It was work from home M-F 8a-3p at $68/hr.doubling my current salary. I was so happy but I kept thinking it was too good to be true. It was.

I’ve been applying for jobs on CareerBuilder and got contacted by someone that told me to go on Microsoft Teams for a job interview and I got the job within about 30 to 40 minutes and then the first red flag that I saw was that they told me I would be getting paid $68 an hour and so I did some research on scams and they fit some of the criteria because it seemed way too good to be true now they have my name address and date of birth
