A woman approached me at the Target on Renaissance Parkway in Durham NC on the afternoon of March 21, 2024 in the women’s lingerie section. She said she was 29 years old. When she approached me she was carrying a shopping basket with a single pair of lounge shorts in it. She went on an on about how she was in a situation with trying to get her kids back and needed somewhere to stay. I never give in to these requests and knew it was a scam, but thought even if it is a scam, she’s probably in a tough spot. So I said that if I could book the hotel directly or just buy her a Visa gift card at the register I’d help her. She had initially requested that I give my credit card info to someone over the phone, which I refused to do. For whatever reason I gave in to using PayPal, in an amount to cover 1 night at the America’s Best Value hotel she told me she wanted to stay at. I put it through as “friends a family” in the PayPal app by scanning her code. Since then, she has sent me a few requests for additional money, and I have blocked her on PayPal. It looks like ai can’t get my money back through PayPal.
