Alida Scam Reports & Reviews (1)

On 2.7.23, I received an email from Julie Martinez (email: [email protected]) which advised me that my application was received by Career Builder for a remote part-time position and that I am scheduled for an interview on 2.8.23 with Dr. Chris McKinney at 8 a.m. To attend the interview, I needed to get a Microsoft Teams account and provide my details to this individual to be invited to the interview. The interview was completed in the chat function and I was asked questions at which time I was told that I was hired and that there was a testing phase to determine placement and in this process, I was to receive training. I was asked to fill out a W4, send a copy of my driver’s license, and confirm my home address. On 2.10.23 I was told that I was to receive a check to buy computer equipment and supplies to work in this role and that this check was sent to my home address and should have been delivered. I confirmed that I received the check. I was then told to deposit the check and to come back when this task was completed. I was then told that the check would clear immediately since it was a cashier’s Check and that I could start the process of purchasing equipment and supplies. I advised that the deposit would not be immediate due to this being an out-of-state check. I was asked to check back on 2.11.23 to verify funds were available and that I would be given the details on where to purchase the office equipment and receive additional training. I advised that I had another job to work and that the offer of employment letter clearly stated Monday thru Friday work. Upon connecting in chat on 2.11.23, McKinney stated that he needed me to get the equipment now. I advised that this would not happen until Monday and that I would not be available. He was insistent that I chat with him on my way to my appointment at which point I advised that I was driving and that he would have to call. He called me through the Microsoft Teams interface on my phone at which time he continued to ask me when I would be available. He also said that I would have to go to CVS or Walgreens to use the money to purchase Apple gift cards to get the equipment. When I asked additionally about my pay for the week, he said I could take my payout of the funds that were sent to me. I did not want to give him the indication of the realization of being scammed and said we are following the contract and I would contact him on Monday 2.13.23.

I have all supporting documents of chat sessions, check received, emails, and employment letter.
